The yes but not all the other networks and that puts it to the same charge as Giffgaff .

Correct. Tony077etc was addressing his comments to the OP's particular circumstances (the OP said he's on the vodafone network). The phrase "Don't be fooled by giffgaff" made it sound like he was saying that unlocking costs were a hidden overhead of using giffgaff, but as I understand from his explanation, what he meant was that for a person using a phone locked to vodafone, unlocking charges could be avoided by using a PAYG provider on the same network.0 -
Except for the CS email, has ASDA announced publicly that their rates are going up? Would they only have to do this on tomorrow if they plan a rise on May 3rd?
I can't find any confirmation of this price rise anywhere else - and JRP is right, it has to be made available by tomorrow at the latest, as that is 30 days notice as stated in the terms and conditions.
Can any Asda mobile customers please confirm if they receive any kind of message before tomorrow night? If there is no 30 days notice, there is no right to increase the price. And if it does go up, I'm sure the other 8p call/4p text tariff providers will follow (no matter what the giffgaff groupies are going to claim). Asda wouldn't make this price rise unless it represents an increase in costs from somewhere. With termination-rate income falling, all the VMOs may be facing higher costs from their suppliers.0 -
Effective from 31st of May.
This is direct from ASDA via text to my own mobile.
Calls will jump 25% from 8p a min to 10p a min!
Texts will jump 50% from 4p a text to 6p a text!

ASDA Mobile price increases are now officially confirmed on their website.
In full -
From Tuesday 31st May 2011, Asda Mobile are making changes to our standard pricing:
All calls per minute 10p
All texts 6p
Voicemail 10p
SMS 6p
GPRS/Data per MB 50p
Calls to Overseas from UK per Min 30p
Texts to Overseas from UK per SMS 30p
Minimum call charge is 10p per minute.
With the increase to 50p per MB, I'm guessing they'll also be introducing a data bundle not available at present.
Let's now sit back and watch TescoLite, TalkMobile Essentials, FamilyMobile and GiffGaff all do the same thing...0 -

If enough people leave ASDA as soon they can, it may discourage the others from raising their prices.
Quite incredible rises in terms of percentage. Shame.0 -
Suprised that Asda have been the first to announce price increases - They usually are the ones trying to make headlines by saying they won't follow others with price hikes etc, - Can't be good news for the PAYG industry if the budget providers are pushing prices up, I can see a mass exodus from Asda to other networks.:dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21
June: £43.15/July: £51.22/August: £90.60/September: £29.75/October: £284.07/November: £171.08/December: £29.220 -
Just was checking something on my 02 account and noticed they have stuck up their prices too
Can't find the £10 sim only deal any more0 -
An outrageous hike on call charges - 25%. It seems inevitable that all companies jumping on the service provider bandwagon do this; set low prices at the outset to lure hundreds of thousands of new customers . . . and then bang the prices up for the poor suckers who are tied in, most of whom have probably bought a phone as well - as their sims won't work in a closed network handset.0
