  • Secondly the initial outlay for the litter is totally offset by overall cost per week/month. The non clumping pellet litters soon add up as you have to change them much more frequently.

Totally agree - 2 x 14 kg bags of GG cost me around £19

I use one full bag in the tray & the 2nd bag does for top ups and lasts around 3 months!

That's way less then I was spending when I used wood pellets :T

Congrats on your new arrival catman!

I have been a fan of Oko for a good while now....but decided to give GG a whirl as we have had a few urinary issues in the house.
I opted for the Golden Grey white....which to me has a rather sickly lavendar smell.
The cats do LOVE it though, and now I have given in and tipped the whole bag into the tray I am finally appreciating it's clumping capabilities.

    Yay! Another convert! :D

I'm 100% converted - after spending the past 3 months with GG in Mia's tray and BK in Archie's tray, the GG wins hands down on clumping and lasting qualities .... I *think* I may even be able to live with the tracking from Archie's tray (which isn't contained like hers is) - we'll see

I do have several bags of BK to get through first though (think there's still 3 bags in the garage) - that was what I did my winter emergency stock up with ..... so it'll be a while before I can switch him over!

I'm currently using the petsathome own brand clumping clay low dust litter, but I'm also mixing it with Tesco own brand litter - I bought a bag of the Tesco stuff because it was much cheaper, but it doesn't cover the smell very well. So to make the more expensive stuff last longer, I do a mix of both.

How often do you have to do a full tray change?

If you use the PAH stuff on it's own, remove the clumps regularly and it's deep enough so they don't get to the bottom of the tray, you should really very rarely need to do a full change

This is how more expensive clumping ones are so much more economical in the longer term

I'd be worried that by adding the cheap litter your actually degrading the good quality stuff & having to do full changes more often - thereby spending a lot more than needed

  • I have been buying lidl at £1.70 a large bag, its fullers earth and clumps well, each filling of the tray lasts about 1 week if you scoop out the usage, 1 bag does 3-4 trays, I have many rescue cats and buy 10 bags a week. I have tried them all and I think its the best on the market, I also use bob martin litterfresh for some of the more pongy cats, asda 80p a tin, Tesco over a pound.

We've been using Worlds best cat litter ever since our cat, Ted, was a kitten, he's 7 now. But recently the price has really increased, so after doing a lot of research, i've found a safe alternative clumping litter.

It's actually Chick Crumbs. I bought a 20kg bag, Dodson & Horrell, for £12 from Jollyes pet store. The Worlds best costs around £31 for 12kg. The crumbs work exactly the same, if not better than the Worlds best & Ted hasn't noticed the change one bit :)

Btw, i just thought i'd mention that not all chick crumb brands are the same, ie some bags have harmful antibiotics etc added to the mix, obviously because it is meant to be chicken feed after all.

Hope this bit of info is helpful :)

Well it's been almost 2 months now since we first bought the Chick Crumbs & it's turned out to be a brilliant cat litter! :j I highly recommend it :)

So you spend £17.00 per week on litter alone?

I see you say "I have tried them all" but have you really tried "them all"?

I mean, have you tried Golden Grey from Zooplus?

I have 4 cats and it works out at £20.00 per month.

How many cats do you have that you spend £17.00 per week????

I've tried reading the whole thread, but am a bit baffled so require the help of you litter experts! We've just adopted two beautiful kittens, they came with two bags of tesco value litter, which they are currently throwing all over the floor, along with the contents of the tray! I'm not too fussed about tracking, as there will soon be a mat out to stop this, but is there a good litter/tray combination that will help with their overexcited burying? Also, I suspect I'm being a little over zealous with the cleaning, how long can these things be left? Additional (and finally) they came with two trays, but only really use one, the other seems to just be for 'fun' digging, so could I be rid of this second one?

I thought I understood cat litter, but all this thread has done is prove I know nothing!
