Best cheap cat litter?

I really like Sainsbury's Ultra Clumping Litter. I made the mistake of buying Morrison's own brand clumping litter the last time I purchased some and it's not good at all."...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make".0

I love the Costco clumping cat litter. Litterpurfect and comes in a 13.6kg tub. It costs £6.99 plus vat. It has Lemongrass in it so is good for smells. Our two only use it for number 1's so it lasts for ages and clumps really well. OH uses the old tubs to mix paint or could be used for storing/mixing compost.
Son uses Catsan or similar for his two indoor cats but this doesn't clump and is more expensive. Not sure on whether it masks smells as the litter tray is next to a plug in.The Cabbage

I used to use wood based cat litter, can't remember which brand. I've just change to Biokat after a recommendation on another thread on here. It only came yesterday but I've already been converted. It's so much quicker to sift through. I ordered 2 and used just under 1 bag to fill the 3 litter trays, not sure how long 2 bags will last but in 2 weeks I've gone through 3/4 of a bag of wood based.
Our kitten seems happy using it, I filled the first tray and he was straight in there. I haven't seen our cat use it yet but I'm sure he must do.... Either that or he's found a hidden corner :eek:0 -
Would definitely recommend Oko plus cat litter, it's more expensive by weight, but blimey it lasts a lot longer than others, and no long term smell issues...we have 3 indoor abyssinians, and recently swapped from a cheaper wood pellet litter to Oko plus. This lasts so much longer, and works out much better value!
We get the 40 litre from Zooplus.co.uk when it's on offer - and anything over £19 is free postage. (if you register with them you get loyalty points which quickly add up and can be exchanged for cat toys etc). Many thanks to everyone who posts, it is very much appreciated!

2 bags of Biocat last me a month with my 4 - they only ever use the trays, never pee/poo outdoors.
I have tried most of the litters there are in the world and sticking to Biocat.0 -
Just a heads up for the Oko plus fans. zooplus have the 40L bag on offer from £26.78 to 24.99 at the moment with a free sample bag of cat treats included. If you register for the first time on the website you get 10% off your first offer bringing it to £22.49 and free delivery because the order is over £19
I'd been buying Oko previously from P@H for £8.99 per 10L bag (working out at £35.96 for 40L) so making a saving of £13.47 with the current offer above - with the bonus of not having to humph it home on a bus.
That's my cats bottoms sorted for the next five months at least :j
(usually a 10L bag will last my two totally indoor cats, one 8yrs old and one 2yrs old well over a month, plus I flush the poop and pee clumps)
Hope this helps someoneDebt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

Does Oko track much? I'm using Biokats at the moment for my two and the 30l lasts around 2 months. The litter itself seems ok and they both are happy with it but it seems to track everywhere.
Plus the kitten seems to like to get his feet wet before going in there so I end up with a load of white foot prints everwhere.0 -
I bought Catsan Hygiene from Sainsburys last week as they had none of their own brand Ultra Clumping on the shelf. Worst mistake ever.
I didn't really look at the description on the bag and thought it was clumping so I was disappointed when I opened the bag. Cat poo now stinks to high heavens and must be removed the very second it drops! Don't like the idea of a full clean out as often either - having to change the full box intstead of removing the clumps of urnine daily. Uurrgghh, that'll teach me to read things before I buy 'em!"...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make".0 -

Hi LisaJane, I do feel that Oko tracks somewhat but I just put a cutoff of carpet and lino in front of the cats box to try catching it, what gets beyond the box is easily lifted with the vacuum cleaner. The tracking is more little individual granules of the litter than dust which causes paw prints, if that makes sense?
I used to use Spar's own brand cat litter until a friend put me onto Oko last year and the change is brilliant. Recently I've been using co-op own brand (not been able to get to P@H for the oko) and I LOTHE it. £2 odds a bag, as soon as the cats wee the fluid drops to the bottom of the litter box, hardening the litter up, poops don't get buried because the cats won't dirty their feet digging in the water logged base layer, soggy foot tracking, cats having accidents outside of the box...... hellish. Hoping my Oko order gets here soon.Debt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

Oko is one of the best cat litters I have ever tried! The only downside is the tracking! I have 4 cats, 2 are very fluffy Maine coons and I would be just as well sprinkling a layer of Ono on every carpet in the house when I do the trays:rotfl:! I have 4 big hooded tray with mats in front but I still have to Hoover 4 times a day! ( the fact I hate seeing the litter on the carpet drives me nuts).
It's as well the oko lasts soloing and keeps smells at bay so well or I'd have given up long ago.
I mix the oko plus with the oko gold to try to dampen the tracking down a bit which does work.
I have bought the Hugro hemp pellets from zooplus to see if they are any good (cheaper than oko) so will report back once I try it (still got most of the oko to get through).
I have discovered a ridiculously HUGE litter tray for massive cats which mine now totally love http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/hooded_litter_box/litter_boxes_filter/300153. It will easily fit my 2 24 and 27llb monsters at once! And you can get it free with zooplus points.
I am planning on trying one with the Hugro hemp litter and one with just oko gold to see how they fare!
I have to say that zooplus is fantastic as I live in the back of beyond and don't drive, if they didn't deliver I'd be lost!:D:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:0
