I'm another for oko plus/ cats best It looks expensive but the stuff just lasts, really no stink, easy to dispose of down the bog if needed, and does really clump into giant snowmen (or maybe that's just my cat, so expect snowballs!)

I found it a false ecconomy with value and cheap brands. They stank, didn't last, the cat hated using it, and sometimes it was like a gritty soup *gag* in the tray. I pay the price of oko and it pays me back in lenght of time, both in how long it stays in the tray before a full reclean/empty, but also how long a bag lasts.

And the best thing ever??? I get it delivered to the door! No more lugging heavy litter from the shop, on a bus and up a flight of stairs :D

Check out Zooplus for it, much cheaper than Pets at home especially if you buy other bits to get free postage. Must throw in a pack of dried fish tablets, the cat wouldn't forgive me! Zooplus is £24.99 for 40ltrs, so £0.62 / litre. Pets at home online show the 10lt is 9.50! o.O
  • I have tried Oko and no good for my (read: my lot) at all - can not stand the tracking etc.

But absolutely true about "value" brands - they are not value at all.

More expensive litters work out cheaper in long term.

So sticking to GGM now that Biocat no longer available, not the variety I liked anywyay
  • OMG the male stuff is AWFUL :( so much for covering up the potent male pee smell  Honestly just about had my head blown off the 1st time I took the lid off  (and NEVER had smell problems with the previous Biokats)

Not happy - it's also not lasting - nearly through the 2nd bag already  (nearly 1 1/2 bag to fill tray but 2nd 1/2 bag of old stuff would've lasted at least a month for top ups)

Anyway ..... GG is on offer http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/golden_grey/litter_golden_grey/384887?unique=HTML91

so I've bought some of that (and have a complaint in re the male biokats - lets see if I get anywhere)

    How many litres is 21kg?

Trying to work out if it's as cost effective as the Pampuss Wood Pellet stuff I've been getting.......which lately has been a bit whiffy.
    I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

I know this is really not going to be very useful at all but as kilograms is generally a measurement of mass and litre a measurement for wet volume it’s all dependant on the density of the litter.

However, to be slightly more helpful, I do (hopefully) have a delivery of golden grey master waiting for me at home so will be able to tell you approximately how many litres it is this evening :D
  • It's practically impossible to try to convert kg to L (as they all weigh different amounts :(

BUT I've found that very roughly it seems to be around 1kg = 1L when you're using it

I've not used that myself BUT I know I found when changing from wood pellets to the biocats that I hardly ever need to totally change the whole tray

As long as it's really deep (which is why i need to use so much as the start as his tray is HUGE) so liquids can't get through to the bottom, it's very easy to clean out and the litter doesn't really degrade like things like wood does

I'm sure Biokat came in 15l bags.

When we got our second cat a 10l bag of wood pellets would last under 2 weeks. Once we changed to Biokats the 2 bags I ordered would last 2 months. The first bag and a bit of the second was used to fill up the two trays we have and the rest of bag 2 was used to top up the trays as required over the two months.

If the trays do need cleaning (hubby occasionally forgets to top up when he cleans the trays) then I just sift through what is left and tip into clean litter tray then clean the dirty one out and pour it back in.

When I get home I'll be cleaning the trays out as we have no biokat left so before I fill up "the bath tub" (the large litter tray) I'll put the bag of Golden Grey into a 10l bucket so should provide a rough estimate.

    That's great, thanks :)

Since getting a second kitty I'm finding that 15l of the wood pellets is lasting just over a week. I clear out after every number 2 but it's getting stinky and I can't bear it.

I've ordered the Golden Gray, can't wait for it to arrive!

I've opened my first bag of golden grey and half of it filled "the bath tub" up, I've left the other tray with the last but of biokat in. I put it into the bucket I use for the fish and it filled it up so the 15kg is approx 11.5l.

It has Gizmo's approval, he waited patiently beside me until I had finished cleaning and filling "the bath tub" and the jumped in and had a poop.
