use some the shredded paper from the shredder - even if you do not use just that it will cut costs for you and of course no one is gonna try and piece anything back together afterwards

Thankyou so much to those who recommended Cat's Best Oko Plus.

I used to get Tesco clumping litter and went through it so quickly and had to keep topping up the litter tray regularly.

I filled the litter tray with Oko 2 weeks ago and I haven't needed to top up any more, just needed to take out the solids and clumps.

It's more expensive but I can see the same size bag lasting at least 4-5x longer making it cost about the same in the end and it is so much nicer to clean.

Never going back to Tesco's litter now (except in an emergency)
  • I've seen some cat litter that says its flushable, but I thought one of the main reasons you shouldn't flush cat poo was because of the risk of toxi..... into the water system. Is that right? It would be soo much easier for me to stick it down the loo.

A cheaper version of the litter sprinkle stuff is bicarbonate of soda. I get 3kg for £2 from the chinese food wholesalers. Just refill your litter sprinkle container with it.

It kills smells, just doesn't have added perfume!

I use OKO Plus which is meant to be flushable... I must admit the idea has never appealed to me, with 5 cats I'd be conscious of blocking up the drains

I buy degradable nappy sacks to put the waste in and then put in the wheelie bin. The best degradable nappy sacks I've found are from Tesco - around 25-30 pence for 75 sacks and these will last quite a while (never timed it, but I'd say I use around 3 - 4 sacks per day).

You can get cheaper nappy sacks (Value range), but personally I'd feel more guilty using these, as they are not degradable.
  • I used Wilkinsons Value Cat Litter, it was really good and found it lasted longer and didnt smell as much as Asdas smartprice litter

keeping smells at bay is my priority right now as there is extra stuff due to majority wet feedings - so wood chip is where it's at for me. I got a 30l sack from the milkman (online ordering no less) for £11.
  • Hiya everyone,
A GOOD read here thank you, I have been using ALDI litter, it was a Fullers Earth product which was amazingly good and very cheap too.. alas they have changed their product damnit! It is no longer clumping and even a wee wee won't be absorbed!

So my next choice is Wilkinsons, it too is Fullers Earth and that by far seems to be for us the best product to use!

Let's see how this thread pans out!
