Sorry but how can you even compare Tesco Value to Golder Grey?

Honestly.. there is nothing to compare...

I do nto believe you have actually tried Golder Grey, have you?
  • Just to add my cat's opinion on cat litter to the mix.

I've had my Pebbles since she was 10 weeks old and we've tried pretty much every expensive named brand to own label cheap stuff and my cat will only use one - it's Tesco's Low Dust Lightweight Cat Litter at £2.99 for 10L. It's pink so easily spotted outside of her tray (I have a £1.99 bathroom mat from IKEA that's outside of the litter tray entrance - slightly ridged so keeps the litter there and easily vacuumed/washed). The size of the granules are just right for her as some of the litters (both cheap and premium brands) are too big and she refuses to even step foot on them (she pee's on the carpet or my bed) and ones that are like sand she will use but refuses to cover over her stools. When she went to a cattery earlier in the year, I took along some litter which the guy laughed at me and said she'd be fine with their stuff. When I picked her up a week later he said it lasted a day before he changed to her stuff as she pee'd on her cat bed and pooped on her shelf.

Unfortunately it's not a clumping litter but even so, I find I don't use a lot of it. I have a covered litter tray which I use a liner on. Any pee soaked litter falls to the bottom on a gentle shake and any solids are then coated with litter which can be taken out. I remove any soiled litter twice daily and top up as required. There is no smell and a bag lasts me a month with one cat.

    Hope that helps!
  • I have 11 cats in total as I breed Maine Coons. I have tried all the varieties and breeders will often recommend the wood based pellets. However I find them annoying as the cats tread sawdust through the house. Best litter(especially with a lot of cats lol) for value is either sainsburys or tesco value. It does the job and is cheap, less than £2 per bag. I know many of you prefer the 'clumping' kind but as a breeder I would NEVER recommend clumping litter as many cats especially kittens do eat the cat litter even if just off their paws which is very dangerous as clumping litter forms a cement in their guts. As the sister of a vet I have heard many tails of cats dying or needed emergency surgery for clumps of cat litter inside them.
  • I know this is a bit of an odd question, but could anybody tell me how much a 10 litre bag of Tesco Value Lightweight Cat Litter weighs.
    Thanks

I was using PAT wood pellet ones for years but frankly, it stinks of pee after a day so tried most of the litters out there and althout PAH own clumping was brilliant and so mas multicat - finally settled on this one (click on the img - takes you to zooplus):

With 4 cats (daughter took 2), 1 bag lasts me good 2 weeks and that is between 3 trays. So with one cat should last well over a month.

Brilliant clumping, no smell at all, reasonable price for a big bag (14kg) - highly recommended.

None (I have tried them ALL) of the supermarket brands was any good at all.

The one above is £11.99 for 14kg and Zooplus's min delivery is £19 so 2 bags and you get free delivery too.

Winner for me at the moment.

just wanted to say thank you so much for this post.

I came on this part of the site to ask the same question, which is the best but cheapest cat litter and happened upon this thread.
I've used PAH wood pellets since I got my cat and you are correct when you say it changed, started to smell after a day or two, even when emptied daily!

So last week I ordered some of this golden grey based on your post, and I've used it for 2 days now and it's fab! At just shy of £24 for 28kg it's not too much more expensive than the PAH stuff as it was £18 for 2 big bags.
I clean out the lumps and I still cant smell anything bar the fresh smell of the litter itself. It's got a "nappy bag" smell to it. Much better than wee and poo!!

I've recommended it to my MIL who took one of our kittens a few weeks ago, and I'll definitely only be using it from now on.

Zoo plus were great too, even got a free gift!!
  • Golden grey is great, only issue i have is how freaking heavy the bags are! I'm such a girl, lol.

Lol, me too!! My OH said " what the h@ll have you ordered" when he brought in the box, he was less excited when I just replied "cat litter" lol
  • Just came across this thread & wondered if any of you have seen or used Smart Cat Wood Pellet Litter from Asda? It's £2.81 for 10 litres but it's the best we've come across (apart from tesco value of course). We have 7 cats (3 of which are kittens) because we are such softies when it comes to homeless cats. We adopted one thats owners did not get her fixed & so we got stuck with kittens!

We were trying to find something that would last longer & not fill our bin up. This stuff so far is fantastic! We use one bag between 2 cat boxes & it lasts about 4/5 days. It slowly turns into sawdust which can be messy but even after 5 days it still didn't have any strong odour apart from wood! Just something to try :)

Glad some of you like the Golden Grey - I am going to stick to it . since I found it some time ago...

I also use Litter Locker (which I got on sale from Zooplus) and refills for Litter Locker from Amazon (got a roll in May and still going) so all the toilet issues sorted ;)
