  • I have just found out that i have lost £55 to nochex for dormant account charges..
when i complained they sent me the below email

    Thanks for your message.

When accounts become dormant they incur a charge of £5 per quarter as per the terms and conditions applicable to your account

(At least people saw !!!!!! Turpin coming...and he was hanged for his crimes)
  • You think that's bad??? Try registering a replacement debit card with Nochex - they debit your card with a random value between £0.01 and £1.99 and you have to confirm how much it was debited by. Sounds fine so far, except for the fact that they keep the amount they debited, it is not credited to your account and on the two occasions I've done it it's been £1.91 and £1.94 respectively.

Absolute bloody rip-off, no way am I going to use them again.

Does anyone have the email address to send them my request to close my account?

Nochex don't make things easy for you. I did a couple of sales on my website about 2 years ago with them for about £155.00. Never had anyone else use them, received the account closed email from them last year, but didn't clock the dormant account charge.

I was going to reactivate the account and get my money out but decided that to do the 2 page bending over backwards sending utility bills and ID was over the top.

You have to send originals so, you need recorded delivery and in this day and age of ID theft and fraud I would rather lose £155.00 than my ID, especially when we are being ripped off by the Government, it is a small price to pay.

The only recourse I have is maybe to stuff them through the small claims court, although Nochex are almost invisible as the offices aren't common knowledge, although I now have the address. Alternatively I can stick a nice little piece about them on my websites and advise people not to use them. There again Martin (MSE) is doing a much better job.

Yes I have just found that I am in the same position and Nochex have stolen my money too and are busy quoting their current terms and conditions at me, which were not the original T&C's that were in place when I opened the account i.e. '3.11 Nochex reserves the right at their absolute discretion to apply an administration charge of no more than £5.00 per quarter on dormant accounts' - February 2006.

Makes you wonder how much money they have made in total from all of us unfortunate soles  - they must be fairly lucarative!

I agree too that is totally unfair to consider your account as dormant just because no one on eBay wants to pay you via Nochex.

Wonder if eBay are aware of this scam regarding Nochex and they could inform others to beware.

I will be looking into this more to see if anything further can be done to get my money back, and also to let others know in the hope they dont befall to this same terrible situation.

If anyone has had a positive outcome to the same problem, it would be great if you could let me know.

Oh well, more work needed to get what I should be rightfully entitled to and not to find myself 'a victim of a crime'! There just has to be some ruling/law to prevent this from happening to me and many others from what I see from just this forum alone.

    Take care

thanks everyone for raising the question of nochex for us.

I can't remember the last time I used it but there was probably something in there...sure enough the account's been suspended...
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

    Hi,

Good news, Nochex have decided to put the money back into my account within the next 7days :)

So I guess it worked to persist and ask for a copy of their complaints procedure.

As I explained I was not told of the change in their terms and conditions to include charges for dormant accounts. Also I do not consider my acceptance of changes because I had not used the account at the date of change or after. The first I knew of anything was when I tried to log into my account.

Hope this helps with anyone else who has suffered in similar circumstances.

    Have a nice day

    I cant even log in.

I tried to log in and got the inactive rubbish and they asked me to open a ticket confirming my details. I did and 8 days later I am still waiting for a reply to my ticket. When I tried the lost password it says my email is not in there system but if i try to make a new account with the same email it says it is in use.

Even there forums are closed now and no one can register. Pile of rubbish this company is.
  • GOD ! Have I had enough of these guys.Nochex have given me the impression that they are only interested in making things as difficult as possible for merchants and seller accounts. They have shut my account down due to inactivity TWICE and the hassle of re-activating it is worse than trying to make friends with a rabid dog - they quote all this bank regulation stuff to the point you realsie they will use it simply to justify anything they do. As a lawyer and senior partner of an international law firm - I know gooble-de-gook when I hear it. Why due soley to inactivity do you have to produce again excessive amounts of ID and bank info - when nothing has changed. This is not in my view efficent fraud controls at work but more like a system not up to the job. Re-activation should not be a hassle when linked -as it is- to your active bank account. Why more ID checks ? Have I turned into a woman overnight !!!! Frankly these controls are clumsy with bad customer service and not worth the trouble. Is it my fault that customers prefer Paypal to Nochex and so very little activity on my nochex account. This lot need to get their act together - as this nonsense will only lead to their going out of business. To confuse tryanny with efficency is not a good business model. Just say Nothanks to Nochex
