Well, unless I get a favourable response from Nochex, I will be contacting the FSA, then the Office of Fair Trading first of all.

Although the FSA will not get involved, I think it is worth logging a complaint with them. I suspect the OFT will only respond is there is a sufficient volume of complaints against the company.

I would go for the small claims court, but it costs £30 and you have to be pretty sure of winning to risk it. If anyone else has any other views or suggestions, I am sure that I, and all the other victims, would be very grateful.

Thanks Paul_H I will follow your lead. I will start now!

I'd say if you can still log into your account and you have an above zero balance withdraw it now whilst you can.
Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.

Together we can make a difference.

 I have never liked nochex since they charged me to verify my bank account/debit card to be able to withdraw my money, and surprise surprise the amount they billed was right at the upper end of their limit. Also the attitude of the customer services was awful. Emptied the account and have never used them again.

they did exactly the same to me recently, i emailed to complain, they replied basically saying tough luck its in the t&c then closed my complaint!

I just logged in to check both my accounts, but they are inactive, i remember why now, after they closed my complaint i emailed back and told them to close my accounts.

Just a thought, but if there are enough of you affected, could you get together and share the cost of the small claim court? I don't know if it can work like that for a group, but might be worth looking into - someone on here will probably know if you can submit a claim for your joint losses. And at least you could support each other!

I got this reply back to my complaint:

    Thanks for your message.

I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our service. Accounts become dormant after 12 months without sending/receiving a payment. The charges applied are at £5 per quarter and are applied retrospectively from the last date of activity. I have passed on your comments regarding the lack of notice that this was going to happen and this will be taken into consideration but unfortunately we will be unable to offer you a refund

..... so on to step 2! I am not feeling happy at all about this!

I replied again & this is what I received:

    Thanks for your reply.

As a financial institution we are regulated by the FSA. If you would like to make a complaint to Nochex please address it to:

    Toby Hartveld
    Nochex Ltd
    Customer Services
    103 Clarendon Road
    Leeds

Once again please accept our apologies and be assured that we are looking at the situation and it is currently under review

Keep going guys, I hate it when companies like this take the p**s!!!

Don't let up, keep the pressure on and I will keep my fingers crossed that you get somewhere.

The more people complain the better....

This is shocking - never thought Nochex of all companies would resort to such shoddy treatment of its customers. Fortunately, I've nothing in my account & it hasn't been suspended - yet.

What happens if you don't have anything in your account? Will they take £5 a quarter off your registered card/bank account? G
  • i never thought much of it till I read this thread. I recently opened up a nochex account - thinking amount authorised would not be claimed and would go back on my card - £1.84 and they kept it!!!!! At least Ebay and Paypal dont take it, they just authorise it with a £1 - at the very least Nochex should have the decency to at least add it to your funds - at the end of the day it is YOUR money
