timread wrote:I've been looking for a reasonably priced cross cut shredder for a month or two now. Last week I checked out some in Rymans and they all had quoted figures for On/Off times e.g. 2 mins On, 20 mins Off. The more expensive ones had longer on times and shorter off times e.g. 2 on/5 off
I've never seen these figures quoted before (unless I missed something in this thread!) and it concerned me that the cheaper ones will burn out if you run them for too long without cooling periods. Has anyone else bought a cross cut shredder that quoted these times, and what's the best price/performance cross cut shredder based on On/Off times?
This is exactly why I can pick up a great shredder for under £10 whilst you office one probably set the company back around £200-500. Shred little and often - this is the most secure way as well!0 -

I also saw one in woolies in Oxford and Abingdon marked up at £29.99. Took it to check-out, price came up at normal price. I said that I thought that they were 1/2 price and was infomed that they wre reduced between mid feb to mid march. So people are just lucky I guess that some are still showing up on tills at special priceNice to save.0

Just had to take our X Cut shredder back to $taple$.
My wife picked it up a couple of weeks ago for £20 and we were having a tidy up to get all the sensitive documents ready. We only managed to run a few sheets through this weekend before the shredder jammed - said it would take up to 5 sheets at a time and we were doing singles. And in short bursts. After about 8 - 10 individual sheets the thing would jam. Unjam it and start again. Same thing. Got a bit tired of doing that so cleaned it up and took it back.
So, back in the market for a decent cross cut shredder that doesn't jam when fed individual sheets! At least we didn't have to wait for the shredder to cool down at all (it did that whilst I freed the mechanism!).
The worst bit was being asked by the sales oik if we'd read the instructions. As it goes, a qualified teacher and systems engineer HAD read the instructions and were NOT stressing the poor thing! I hope others have had more luck with theirs [sigh]0 -
Had this with a staples shredder a while back - If you can find the Asda one then I can report it has been jam free for a few weeks now (single sheets, maybe ten to a batch) and Mr Picky here has been pretty happy with it!0
