I have been looking for a CROSS-CUT Shredder, but believe most if not all listed here are STRIP-CUT shredders, as very cheap.

Apparently, there is software that can re-assemble STRIP-CUT documents, and Strip-Cut can be re-assembled by hand quite quickly.. as bills etc are often different colours/fonts.

CROSS-CUT Shredders cut into much smallier pieces about 2cm x 3cm

The ASDA one is CROSS-CUT and it cuts about 2cm x 3mm

They also do a cheaper strip cut - but if you get the one with £18 on the box - that scans at £9 then roberts's your father's brother

There shouldnt be much difference in price as the blades just need to have 'teeth' on them to cut the strips.

We have a big strip cut at work and I have seen bags with documents fed horizontally - ie you can read whole lines of text (P**s up in a brewery, anyone?)

Picked up a PC line cross cut shredder from PC world for £14.99 on Sat 02/04/05 at Bury st Edmunds, this may have been a special as the store was opened that day, but it may be national.

I too was on the hunt for a Cross cut shredder last week. Here is what I found

Tesco - £13.89 but strip cut
Asda - £9.99 but again strip cut
WHS £24.99 - nice solid looking machine but my target was under £20
Wilkinson £14.99 but only strip cut
    Woolies £29.99
Argos - new price £19.99 but out of stock
    Index - £29.99
    Staples - £19.99 sold

Next on my trip was Toysrus & Sainsburys.

However I was on foot as I thought the exercise would do me good and I couldn't be arsed to carry on walking after Staples. Nice man in staples told me don't continiously shred for more than 2 minutes as they overheat and then die.

    2 points to add.

The WHS one (assuming it's the same one I was looking at - sounds like it is - VERY solidly built) is actually reduced to £24.99 from £39.99

In both the Woolies near me this cross-cut shredder is only £14.99 - says £29.99 on the box but goes through at half price !

The Woolies ones I saw had a sale sticker removed but still visible if you know what I mean. The shelf said £39.99 but thought I would ask, scanned at till as £29.99.

  • Surely the Smaller The Criss Cut Strip the Better?!

I've been looking through the Argo's bunch and outta the so-called-budget range, I think the Fellowes Shredmate Higher Security Crosscut Desktop Shredder Was £24.99 now 19.99 671/9388 is the best cause it cuts at 3.9 x 23mm cross cut size. Any input?
  • I've been looking around more and I don't understand - the bigger the cut size the more expensive?!

EDIT: Seem's my initial diagnosis is still right - the smaller the criss cut piece, the better which makes the 19.99 Argos the best buy - http://www.abcoffice.com/ds2401.htm points to a 300 quid shredder and it cuts it well small if you check the tech specs so as I first said, the smaller the cut the better.
