Still NO Shredder - Help !!!

i bought mine in argos for £14.99 (down from £19.99). it works well and managed to shred through a whole big bag of bank statements we've been waiting to dispose of safely. It seems quite hardy - the trick is to not shred more than 3 sheets of paper each time, even though the manual says it takes up to 5

we did try tesco first as their value shredded is meant to be good (£9.99) but it was never in stock

Still happy with my Asda one - good luck with finding one. The trick is to stick to single sheets and small batches - ie do it every day rather than saving stuff up and burning the shredder out. If you look in office catalogues you will see that a proper shredder costs about £200. So dont try anything heavy duty (or sticky!)

The onlY ASDA within 15 miles of us hasn't got any, so please no more posts telling me how wonderful the ASDA bargain is, I KNOW!! Are there by any chance any other retailers with a good deal out there???

Well my darling 2 year old helpfully shredded a £20 note in my cross-cut shredder the other week (he loves doing the shredding) and I was just passing him some stuff to shred when he produced said note from my wallet and shredded it before I could stop the shredder.....

Luckily had just emptied the waste bin of the shredder - so only had a confetti jigsaw to do - took about 90 mins to reassemble it lol - thankfully the lass at the bank saw the funny side and exchanged it (although I see it's stuck to the notice board as a warning to shredder owners lol).

So I've started giving him pocket money - so I can punish him by stopping it :D

you were lucky hunnymonster, i thought a note was still only legal if it was in 4 pieces or less!

You let your two year old near a shredder? - this sends me into a panic - mine has an opening easily big enough for little fingers and that will cause a lot more upset than a mere £20 note! I hope yours is a very safe design!

Hi everyone, I too have a strip cut shredder and on hindsight should have bought the cross-cut. When I have filled the box I then get 3/4 carrier bags and 'share' the cuttings between them - less chance of a 'whole' document in the same one. Time consuming? maybe, but hopefully a bit more secure.

    Dafp

On the same lines I fill a bag (such as a swing bin liner) with all my strip-cut shreddings give them a mix then pour in a few glasses of water. I then tie the top and mulch it before slinging it in the can. hopefully this will deter any smalltime id thief

He's never left alone with it - the throat is only capable of taking 3 thicknesses of 80gsm paper at a go (try 4 and it just won't go) the business part is a good 1.5" below the throat too and anyway he always holds the 'top' of the paper to be shredded, the instant the shredder starts and 'grabs' he lets go (he loves watching it eat an A3 sheet longways).

After reading this thread my husband & I thought we ought to invest in a cross cut shredder. He checked on line at PC World & saw that they had a £15 one. In we went to collect it from our local store but unfortunately they didn't actually have one in stock after all. Thinking on his feet (not like him) he asked if we could have another for the same price. The manager eventually agreed & let him take away one priced at £39.99 for £15 !! :D
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)

    Can't find a cheap shredder?

Simply collect up the documents that need shredding, grab a pair of scissors and wait until a programme you watch is on the tv or radio. Sit back and unwind whilst manually snipping at all those documents.
    not smelly, not a cat.
