Great Cross Cut Shredder Hunt
Comments

Sadly my ASDA cross cut shreader ceased to work yesterday. I failed to realize that the bin was full and put it into reverse! It made a horrible grinding noise and is now stuffed full of paper and wont go forward or reverse.0

Oh dear - I take it it 'sucked back' and jammed - sorry to hear that - but thanks for the warning!0

So, have we concluded which is the best value for money cross shredder then as I'm now in the market for one
I've looked at the WHSmith one and the reviews appear to be ok but it's not the cheapest I've seen around. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to get the Asda one, assuming there are any left anyway for £9, so are there any others around that I should be looking at, and that won't break down or jam up on me within a few hours of use as I have a fairly huge stack of paperwork to dispose of
Cheers "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Only realised this thread was going when I read Martin's weekly update this morning.
I have been trying to find a suitable Xcut shredder for the past month. After having searched around PC World and one or two other places, I did actually get one from Argos - however, they failed to advise me that the one I had chosen had been replaced by a different model, and unfortunately I did not realise until I got it home.
So ... still trying to get a decent Xcut, and after having read this thread, I will hot-foot it down to Woolies and to WHS to see what they have on offer at the moment.0 -
Was in PC World yesterday and spotted a shredder - cross cut, handles staples, credit cards - the lot - £14.99 - tried it on everything on home and its substantial and minces anything i've tried0

Hi there,
Just wanted to share my experience of the above. I had been looking for a shredder for a month and was not able to locate any as cheap as those mentioned in previous messages.
Anyway came accross the WHSmith one at
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/whs/go.asp?ISBN=30123458&DB=320&menu=Gifts
It is advertised for £24.99, but it does not state that this price is a £15.00 reduction on normal price, thus making it a £39.99 shredder!
I purchased mine a couple of weeks ago and have been really pleased. It is very sturdy, comes with auto start, stop and reverse functions.
It is security level 4 (with 5 being the highest and most secure level - usually available only on very expensive shredders). It also has a auto cut out to ensure that the shredder does not overheat.
You can order one on the WH Smith website and have it delivered to your local store, which means there is no delivery charge. Mine took 2 days to be delivered, although for obvious reasons they had said it could take a week.
BE WARNED - The shredder comes in a very sturdy box which does have a plastic handle to make it easier to carry, but be aware that it is heavy.

I ordered one on Tuesday and it arrived this morning and I'm very pleased with it. I also didn't realise it was reduced price until I spotted the red sticker on the box so I was even more chuffed for getting such a good deal"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

If I'm going to compost the shredded documents, would I be better off with a strip shredder? would a cross-cut one leave things too compacted to compost well? am I on the right website?0
