have you considered looking at your career - rather than just looking at the saving side? You are doing very well in a low-risk strategy type of way but increasing your salary will not only have an immediate effect but a compounded one over time. Personally I think that is where I would concentrate my efforts. Earning £20k ish in London is very low - it shouldn't be too hard to achieve far more than that within 2-3 years.
Just a thought as you seem very resigned to staying in your current role/situation......
Hello Jegersmart,
You make a valid point, which is the main reason why i have applied for a new role in the organisation i'm in, starting salary £32k. Just to let you know, i actually earn just over £30k. I clearly have not done a SOA listing all of my out goings on this thread nor have i list my S&S portfolio.

Thats what i'd presume unless told otherwise.
I have had a few nights out where I've spent less that £20 due to drinking slower, and mixing in the odd lemonade or blackcurrant and soda, where my friends have spent in excess of £80. Just depends how you handle yourself and your purse. Oh and typing this is making me reflect on the cheaper nights always being the most fun. Think I should return to drinking soft drinks for a while. No one ever knows its lemonade or soda and black anyway, apart from me and my headache free morning after.
Hello iwantahome,
You are right, i do not drink any more. Unfortunately, few of my friends ended up having to stay at a hotel on Saturday as they were too drunk to to get a taxi/mini cab home :rotfl:and it was't cheap. P.s, i paid for rounds equally like my friends...tut tut tut:beer:
Bye for now...

Hi Sylvia
Just another side of the "coin" consider - I hope it all works out for you. Just remember to live life *as well as* save up - after all - what is going to change when you buy your own property - you will have much less disposable income and saving will be harder and your life may be no different than before in effect - other than the fact that your bank owns the property you reside in and you are a "homeowner" which is clearly important to you. I am not knocking you, rather reminding you that there is more to life than saving and owning a house, you have to enjoy the journey because it does not stop or get better automatically when you own a property.
The last time I owned any property was in late 2001 and I am currently renting. Mind you, I am also not English so I do not have the cultural position drummed into me that I (almost) have to own my own property. Having said that, I do plan for my future without paying off a loan on a property every month so it is of course "horses for courses" as with most things:)
Good luck with job applications and your saving project - I hope you find time and funds to do other things as well. It is a very big and diverse world out there!0 -
Well said cloud dog. I'm following Sylvia's diary as I find it interesting and useful following other people's savings diaries. I'm sure I'm not the only one either.
I posted something similar on this thread a while back and got shot down by some gloating idiot which really put me off posting on this board.
I think there is a place for these sort of threads on this board-where else can they go ? This is meant to be about SAVINGS after all.#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -

Maybe they could create a seperate area under Savings for people to put their saving logs. I too have been lurking on this thread and feel quite motivated by Sylvia's posts. :T0 -
