No matter what your mum says, it's got to be your decision at the end of the day so you should do what you think is right, research the options and then decide. :j
Well done for getting cheaper car insurance! Maybe yours is expensive because of the higher risk of accident/theft from driving in London! Anyway the cost should go down every year which is a blessing!
Hmm, you do make a valid point, the only down side of moving out that far (45 miles)is the very long commute and not having friends and family near by.
Things hopefully will be changing soon. I have applied for a new position at work, fingers cross i get the job . This would give me an increase pay, yay:j
Good luck for next week and welcome to monthly pay. It will be a definite pain to start with, but you will be okay. Have they given you your work shift pattern?
P.s Going to the gym is work related and nothing more:rotfl:
Bye for now...

Wow - your car insurance is expensive - I'm glad I don't live in London! Mine actually went up by £10 this year - apparently car insurance has risen an average of 40% over the past year. It's due to get worse too, with that ruling on not discriminating based on gender. I think mine was about £280 when I renewed last month, with 3 years no claims, but then my car is only worth about a grand, and is a 1.5, so not a very powerful engine.
I think deciding on where to live once you're closer to your target is probably a good idea. There's all kind of things that could happen to change your mind one way or another in the meantime.
How old is the missed payment? If it's going to be dropping off soon, it's probably not worth bothering about. The consensus on the mortgage board on here seems to be that one late payment from a few years ago isn't a big deal anyway. I have a default on mine, but it's dropping off in September, hurrah!
Good luck with your job application - when do you find out?0 -

No, I won't find out my shifts until my first day on Monday, as I have to go to a corporate induction. However I did find out that it will be the same shift for a whole week (IE either a week of earlies/days/lates) so that's quite good, earlies start at 6am and lates finish at 11:30pm, the shifts should be around 7.5h each.
By the way, all the best with getting that position you are going for Sylvia, I do hope you get it! :beer:0 -
Hi Sylvia,
Just stumbled accross your diary and I think I will subscribe to it
Am in sort of a similar situation to you but a few years older, I work in the civil service and am trying to save for a new place, the only difference being i'm on the ladder, but the area I want to move to is more expensive so I need to save so I can remortgage as little as possible.
In the last 2 years I have totally changed my outlook on money and have made some quite big choices. For example I changed my car to a Toyota Aygo, (£20 per year road tax, cheap to run and cheap insurance) discovered the delights of Topcashback.co.uk, always look for promotion codes on everything I biy online, buy food from Aldi/Lidl/supermarkets basics in the evenings when they reduce stuff.
I'm another one who loves travelling and have had some really cheap holidays to some cool places like Krakow, Riga, Istanbul and Budapest in the last 2 years. I book with either Wizzair or Easyjet and book a hostel at the other end for less than a tenner a night B&B. Four city breaks in less than 2 years without effecting my budget for general spends as it works out so cheapI've also had a few weekends away in the UK, using the deals in the Travelzoo top 20 weekly email that i'm subscribed to.
It's worth looking at Autonational and Autoaid for your breakdown cover - they are cheaper than AA/RAC and you still get top level cover. (Don't forget to go through Topcashback)
I think you're doing great with your savings, will continue to follow how you're getting on, all the best..#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -

Hello everyone!
I hope you all have had a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend so far
I have been very ill this week with hay fever and flu together (worst combination, but still went half dead to work)
I have noticed that I have not done much towards my to do list. But this weekend, I have cancelled my Sky subscription. For once, this had nothing to do with saving money, but the lack of signal and with the recording facility totally stopped working this week, it just had to go.
I was doing well with going to the gym until I got ill, but hope next week I will be back in there at least 3 days.
To Do List for May- Car insurance for June
- Car break down cover
- Buy new work boots( a must, need to get this at some point next week)
- Sell BB mobile phone
- Sell old/ broken jewellery (will try to go and sort this tomorrow)
- Review Sky package
- Buy new trainers for Race For Life (need to get this at some point next week)
- Go gym at least 3 days a week(been at least 2 days apart from this week)
- Sort out the garden with minimum cost(I actually amazed myself by spending less than £50 so far)
I have looked at the surplus in my main current account yesterday, i believe some of this should go towards the start of my newer car fund = £300 but with no deadline (i know i have gone full circle regarding this topic since i started this thread, sorry)
Bye for now…

Wow that Is quite a long list considering we've only a few days left of May now! It's good that you're cancelling Sky TV, I would see that as a waste of money, Freeview does it for me and without the hefty monthly charges
I hope you manage to find some reasonably priced car insurance, I know that's easier said than done as premiums seem to be rising left right and centre!
With breakdown cover there always seem to be good cashback deals from Quidco/Topcashback which give quite a bit back if you go via them to get AA or RAC breakdown cover. That's a general tip for anything else too, I always try to get cashback for online purchases, every little helps
Congrats for decing to run Race for Life aswell, that's certainly not easy so I can see why you're keen to go to the gym, I hope that all works out for you, I'll be mentally supporting you :T
Which model Blackberry are you selling? I think the best place to sell is on eBay as theres such a huge target market there, unless you can get a private sale from someone you know which would save on eBay (and PayPal!) fees.
Don't spend too much on the shoes that you need to get though, although I suppose that's asking a bit too much of a lady not to splash out loads on shoes?Sylvia1982 wrote: »I have managed against all the odds to find another 2x £2 to go towards my £2 saver, which is £62 now. At this rate I will have £100 towards Xmas presents. I will update my sig :rotfl:

As for how I'm doing, been in the new job for 5 days now and it's been quite boring so far, just mainly office-based training and policy/procedures briefing, more of that to come next week until Friday when I actually get to do some practical work at my station! I also won't find out my roster until then, so far the training is mainly 9-5's and its about 90mins each way away from home, so lots of early wake-ups! Thank god for having bank holiday monday off :j but no thanks for having to wait another 4 weeks until my first payday!!
