Will be following this thread too as I am on the same "journey" as you and will be 28 on Thursday.
We should start a club, 28 seems to be a good age for wanting a house these days0 -
Hi everyone, shrewsaver wrote: »Congrats on the savings front. Will be following this thread too as I am on the same "journey" as you and will be 28 on Thursday.
Welcome shrewsaver! I see you have a large amount saved towards your deposit, good luck with your savings. I also hope you have a lovely birthday on Thursday. There doesn't seem to be a 'break' for someone looking to take out a 70% mortgage. Assuming a max price of £130k, a 25% deposit would be £32.5k, a bit lower than you're allowing for.
Hi edinburgher I have spoken to a high street bank regarding this, I was told its possible(but this was about a year ago).I need to look into this, fingers cross it's still the case.We should start a club, 28 seems to be a good age for wanting a house these days
I think you are right, we should start a club:D
The bl:mad::mad:dy car
Could things get any worst with my car?
My mechanic came round to check my clutch. After testing it, the hand break cable snapped(as my friends would say, only Sylvia this would happen too)
This means a £200 job has just turned into £260, I just wanted to cry.
But my mum has made it very clear that I am lucky it happened as it did, at home not at work.
It is true what they say about cars... it's a money pit ... but better than taking London Transport:rotfl:as i've learnt today

Just console yourself with the fact that a season ticket would cost ££££ these days! Hopefully this is the end of your car troubles for the moment.0 -

This is the only reason why I made sure I got a car 2 years ago. The cost of London Transport is unbelievable:eek: and totally unreliable.Must save to live, not just live to save!!! :think:Challenge Save 12k in 2019 #141 £6,143.34/£6kDeposit £82,317.88/£120K :jFees/ect £12K/£12K:jEmergency fund £1K/£1K:A:A'Saving again after parting with a lot of money enjoying life:rotfl::A0 -
I love the new Tax year
Just transferred my ISA limit from my new web saver reward account.
I now have another 2 x £2 to my sealed pot which makes my total £46 :j
Good news!
I got my car back yesterday, my mechanic is the best, any other mechanic would of ripped me off. He checked everything connected with my clutch, it appears all correct. Apparently air may of got into my brake fluid which helps to operate the clutch. But everything is okay for now, which means £260 went down to £76. More money towards my car insurance for June
I hope eveyone has a lovely weekend

I hope everyone is well!
I have been busy de cluttering my finance folders, as I had run out of space to place any more paper work. I couldn't believe the amount of certificates for past bonds, ISAs and etc that have expired. The best bit was finding a certificate for Premium Bonds that I got back in 2008. I actually forgot that I had this:eek:(must not forget it).
I have been reading other threads over the weekend and have picked up a few ideas on living on a small budget. Couldn't believe people are able to live on <£80 a month.I wont allow my budget to be that small, I do need to go out with mates. Thank Goodness I dont drink anymore, it use to cost me £150- £200 a night in town
I will be budgetting for going out with mates for later in the month. So I have been having a few NSDs and able to do this due to taking lunch/dinner into work from home. Very MSE...:rotfl:

Mhhh - maybe if I was unemployed/retired, didn't commute, didn't heat my home and was a vegetarian? OH and I love to cook, manage to spend £200/mth on food and wine, which is still reasonable compared to many on the boardsSo I have been having a few NSDs and able to do this due to taking lunch/dinner into work from home
NSDs are good, but it doesn't pay to obsess about them in my experience. LSDs (low spend) are almost as beneficial for the bank balance and you don't feel like you're living a monastic experience with them!
On a totally unrelated point - why are you Southerners hogging all the £2 coins? I've been trying to start a £2 savers line in my signature since Christmas and haven't seen a single one0 -

I am now understanding what you mean, LSDs are so much better. NSDs are so hard and unrealistic to stick too, which I have learnt this week.On a totally unrelated point - why are you Southerners hogging all the £2 coins? I've been trying to start a £2 savers line in my signature since Christmas and haven't seen a single one.
Mobile Contract
I can't believe T-mobile has got me for another 24 months. I tried to terminate my contract with them and finally join 02. Unfortunately, they gave me the best deal that I believe that exist right now. I now will be getting a new phone and will be paying £7.50 pm instead of £20pm as i have been a loyal customer and the problems that i have with signal at work(my original price plan was £35). Just to say I am happy about it, just wondering why i had to threaten to leave them to get this great deal, hmmm
My car
Whats the odds of my car causing me problems again?
On Friday, whilst driving home, I unfortumately heard a strange sound and then saw a lovely chip on my windscreen. Thank goodness i'm fully comp:j, waiting for it to be repaired on Wednesday. Can't believe public transport again for Wednesday as they can't give a time...
Fingers cross it doesn't crack or thats going to cost.
Bye for now...

Hi Sylvia, have had a read through your thread - sounds like you are doing really well! I'm turning 28 on Friday and am also saving for a deposit, but I'm still several years off yet.
That's an amazing deal on your mobile!! £7.50 per month, wow. I'm with O2 on PAYG, and tried to negotiate a contract with them, but they don't offer any loyalty deals on the basis that new customers get the same as existing ones. So I've stuck with the payg for now, but maybe I should investigate other networks a bit more!
Can empathise with the car troubles. Mine just failed its MOT
Good luck with the savings - I'll be following your thread with interest.0 -
Hello everyone,
Welcome and thanks for your post Svenena. I'm now happy to hear that I made the right decision by not going to O2, no customer loyalty discount:eek:.
I'm sorry to hear that your car failed its MOT, I do hope the repairs do not cost alot for it to pass.
If you don't mind me asking, but do you have a time scale of when you are planning to purchase your property? Before i forget, have a lovely 28th birthday on Friday
Gossip- Off topic
What kind of world are we living in. Just got word yesterday, apparently a neighbour across my road got burgled 2 weeks ago(Living down south, you don't speak/know your neighbours). Unfortunately she has found out by police yesterday after they arrested her neighbours son, that he had something to do with it. He still had some of her stuff in his bedroom. I have known this lad since he was a toddler. How disgusting and I thought I have heard it all... rant over
