    Hi Sylvia,
    You are doing amazingly well!
And you got rid off the car! It really makes no sense when you live in London, but I know how difficult it is to give it up once you had the freedom car provides...

As this is going to be your first home, are you sure the fees will be as hight as £12k? Or are you planning on some really nice furniture? I suppose it is better to have more for funishing rather then less, you will then be able to pick up house needing new furnishing to make it top notch for less money (as badly presented homes don't sell as well, while when you have the imagination you know the value is down just due to presentation!)

    £40k deposit - just WOW!

    Hello everyone,

    Since my last update…:o

I had saved towards my Emergency Fund target goal 12k. Unfortunately I did it again, real life dilemma popped its ugly head and the lot was gone to a friend. Not holding my breath, as the person I gave 15k to, doesn’t appear to have any intention of giving it back, not even a penny . Well I do hope I stop doing this thing, putting others in front of my dreams.

Since end of last year, I started to save again towards my Emergency Fund and on target to hit my target in September
Work became very stressful, but I had applied for a new position middle of last year and since working in this new department, work life has become a nicer environment again.

I must say, for those who followed previously, must be annoyed with me. It’s a very expensive set back, but I have learnt from it and started to live a little more as my previous general spending was not practical on the long haul.

To be honest, I have been a little worried to update this thread since the beginning of this year. But it’s the only way I am able to keep myself motivated.

Will update in next post the new targets I have.

    Bye for now…

    Hello everyone,

I have done my sums on my new chosen area in regards to deposit.:T
At the moment I am in two minds whether to purchase.
For a few years now, I have had thoughts to migrate to another country. Will be going over there this summer and travel around and finally make my decision on, should I stay or should I go?
Either way I need to save up towards new targets.

    Deposit Fund = £60,000.
Emergency Fund = £10,000 (will revise figure at a later date)
    Newer Car Fund = £10,000

For now my monthly savings will be the following until Emergency Fund is reached

    Deposit Fund = Overtime
    Emergency Fund = £1,000
    Newer Car Fund = £100
Holiday Fund = £250 (Spending money)

Here goes for my savings for April.
    April
    Deposit = £0
    Grand Total = £41,856.67

    Emergency Fund = £1,000
    Grand Total = £7,659.68

    Holiday Fund = £20
    Grand Total = £220

    Presents Fund = £0
    Grand Total = £0

    Newer Car Fund= £250
    Grand Total = £6,716.80

    To Do List for May

    • Try and do at least one day of overtime this month
    • Open second TSB account once online PIN finally appears
    • Stick to saving targets
I have managed to open the new TSB Classic Plus account. Currently waiting a week later for the PIN for both online and debit card. I will open a second account once able to and transfer another £2K into it. At least £4k will receive 5% APR:D

I have already opened a new cash ISA for this new tax year and have filled it already. It’s for 18 months at 2%. Going to decide whether or not to put remainder – S&S ISA allowance into it or not.

Here is to a good May and apologies for the long post

    Bye for now…

Hello everyone, hope you all are well.
This month has been tough, but productive:beer:
I have finally opened my second TSB plus account, so any interest from these two accounts will be going to my deposit fund.

May has been really wet and I really wish the rain could stop so that I could start cycling to work again (hate cycling in the rain, especially in London, its ever so dangerous)
Here goes for my savings for May.

    MAY
    Deposit = £189.26
    Grand Total = £42,045.93

    Emergency Fund = £1,000
    Grand Total = £8,659.68

    Holiday Fund = £250
    Grand Total = £470

    Presents Fund = £50
    Grand Total = £0

    Newer Car Fund= £0
    Grand Total = £6,236.80

Some interest came through end of April and has gone to deposit total including overtime.
I have realised I made an error with my car fund total last month, I have now corrected this.:o

Until the big trip abroad, I will be using the Car fund contribution. Anything that is left after my trip will then go back towards the car fund. Cannot wait for my first holiday in over three years

I got a couple of days of overtime, so that should be in my next pay

    To Do List for JUNE

    • Try and do at least one day of overtime this month
    • Use cosmetic products already purchased before buying anymore
    • Stick to saving targets

Looks like you're doing really well with savings Sylvia! Just caught up on the recent posts on your thread. I'm also saving, but on a much smaller scale than you, with a little boy, childcare and bills, bills, bills! I'd love to have your level of savings one day though :)

I'm sorry that your friend has let you down with paying you back. Is there something that you can do? I suppose if not, it's a lesson learnt.

Wish I could take a leaf out your book regarding savings. You've done so well!

Where are you off travelling to?
    CC1: £4481.14/ £5031.14 (12% paid off, £600) | CC2:£3307/ £3807 (14.4% paid off, £550) | Loan: £10,528.20/ £15,792.30((33% paid off, £5,264))

July debt total: £24,630.44 | New debt total: £18,316.34 | Total debt paid: £6,414.10 (26%)

Hello JoJoC, thanks for your post.
I thought I had mentioned before, oops. I am off to Canada:j. Still a bit nervous about it all, scared that it won't live up to my dreams as I hear only lovely things about the country. Hoping to do all the tourist type things, which I have been pre warned, it is expensive

Regards to the friend? We have stopped talking and I have seek legal advise, unfortunately nothing can be done for the amount I have given him. Lesson truly learnt
Some times I wish I didn't save like I have done, maybe some people would stop looking at me as a bank instead of a person who they suppose to care about. Hey ho that's life.

Change of topic, just seen the weather forecast for this weekend. Not happy, my first weekend off in how long and its going to rain:mad:. Suppose to finally catch up with my brother and sisters with their kids. Not sure what we can do now, if its going to rain. Any ideas???

    Savings
I have worked out my remaining cash ISA allowance for this tax year and put it in the new ISA. The remaining amount left will be going to my S&S ISA:A

Before anyone starts, I have money in some of the top current accounts and I have the remaining of this tax year to use the others[STRIKE] if [/STRIKE] as I stay on track with my saving targets

    Bye for now...

You must have a good job in the public sector to be saving that much!

Hi guitarman001, I've just been lucky that I got a few days of overtime for the last several months. Keeping my fingers cross it keeps up :-)
