  • I sent the first letter to woolwich with £10 in May. I have heard nothing and now they are owned by Barclays and I cannot get past the call centre. What do I do?

    Firstly, Don't Panic!

    The Woolwich has been owned by Barclays since at least 2001.

    Complain to the Information Commissioner and they will contact the Woolwich for you and you WILL get the information in about week ;)

    You can contact them on line and fill in the on-line complaint form at:-

    CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)
    BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)

  • Hi smurdoch

    Good luck getting past the call centre. I am a Woolwich customer - left Barclays many years ago as I did not like the service......... My partner spent over and hour trying to get through to someone today, but gave up. How can they opperate with a 15 + minute wait on the call centre? :mad:

    An Update.

    :j :j :j :j :j SUCCESS:j :j :j :j :j

    They offered just over £9k last week which I didn't want to accept.
    Phoned them up and asked how they arrived at that figure. Told me to score thru that amount, write in what I wanted and send it back. They then agreed to pay the whole £12,100!!!! It should be in my account in the next few days.

    Thank you so, so, so much Martin, E-Lass, Rex and Nick. Without your posts, advice and encouragement this wouldn't have been possible. This means that ,apart from the mortgage, we will now be debt free and intend to stay that way.
    For anyone else still reclaiming, keep going! It was a long slog but well, well worth it!
    Good Luck and Thanks again

    Well done Riggsy!

    I'm in a similar situation. Can I ask - when you sent the letter to them telling them what you wanted - was it a template letter or did you just word it yourself?

    Cheers

    Hey Marc,
    The last letter was actually the one THEY sent me but with their offer crossed out and the amount I was claiming inserted instead. I called them not long after I got my court date; this seems to spur them on!
    All other letters were using the templates from this site.
    Good Luck with your claim. I'll keep an eye out.

    Can you believe the Woolwich. I'm claiming for £380, which is quite a small amount considering some I've seen, but today they filed a defence against my claim! I'm really annoyed - especially as I live overseas (still a UK Resident) which means I won't be able to attend court to contest my claim. Can anyone offer any advise.....

    I've started claiming my charges from the Woolwich aka Barclays. I have just received a letter from them (Barclays) offering my £626 of the £936.13, including interest, that I am claiming back from them.

    They have given me eight weeks from the date of their letter (10 July) in which to accept or decline their offer.

    Thing is, do I just bite the bullet and accept their offer or should I go for it and move onto the next stage to claim my full ammount. Ill be on holiday from 27 July to 14 Aug, giving me 2 weeks now before I go away (I have to pack and prep for me and my family too!) Will I miss any deadline if I start procedings before I go away or should I leave it 'till I return? PLUS, does this stage of the process get stressful (I'm sick of stress from my other thread!)?! :o

    Hi Grace

    This is a common dilemma where people are offered a proportionaley tempting "gesture of goodwill".

    Factors to take into consideration are:

    * Would having a smaller amount of money immediately be so useful right now that it outweighs the fact that you're basically being shortchanged;
    * If you proceeded down the court route, remember there is an extra 8% APR automatically added - 8% from the date the charges were incurred, not just from the day you file a claim. And the 8% continues until you get full payment;
    * YTou will get the full amount back, it'll just mean being patient.

    In respect of your going away, you won't miss any deadlines as there are none to miss! This is your claim and Barclays are trying a ridiculous bully technique in trying to control the timescale. The only deadlines that are important are the courts, and they aren't involved yet.

    Only you can decide whether to accept the offer. Be aware that if you write back stating you will accept it as partial payment and intend to seek the balance through court action, they are 99% certain to withdraw the offer.

    Personally, I would go for all your money back (I am currently in last stages of 3 litigations against Woolwich aka Barclays) and I know I will be reciving it all back plus 8% Statutory Interest alone worth nearly £1.5k :)
    Integrity is a dying art!:p
