   Thaqnk you so much
Looked at the article, it recommends Alliance & Leicester bank a/c as the best one.

So I've open a bank account with a 6 month free over draft (& "I think" the lowest OD rate in the UK after the 6 months).
Free European travel insurance (includes Turkey, Egypt & other med destinations).
12% on a regular saving account that you put away a set amount (you decide between £10 & £250) for one year & then get it back in 12 months with 12% interest.
5.something% interest rate on an additional account that you put away what & when you like.
% credit card on balance transfers from my current credit cards.

Hubby is going to open one tomorrow & we will each get £40 as a referal fee:beer:

Start new job on Monday & they were able to give me my account number & sort code there & then on the phone:j :j :j for payroll on Monday.

    One last question.............
These bank charges, I was with the Woolwich as of this month (or thereabouts) it became Barclays. Who do I write to for the charges the Woolwich or Barclays?

Am I the only person in the UK who hasn't claimed bank charges?

simple answer no - not every body has been stitched up by the banks - that doesnt mean to say that we cant all be careful with our money.....

good luck to all who do claim......
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

I haven't reclaimed any. I've accrued a few, mostly I've got them back immediately by calling and complaining as soon as they appear. The odd other few aren't worth the hassle. Oh, and my brother at one point worked for my bank, and he refunded a few for me!

I remember the Woolwich once bounced a DD that would have made me less than £1 (I think it was 65p) overdrawn & when I complained they said its rules:mad:

I've used the template first letter, but I'm not 100% sure where to send it to.
    Is it Woolwich or Barclays?
My opening branch of the Woolwich, my local branch or the Woolwich, my local branch of Barclays, the head office of either????????????????????????????????????
One of the advice pages suggested the branch instead of the head office in case you have to send the bailiffs in, LOL.

    Any suggestions

The first letter i sent, i sent to my local Woolwich branch where my account is, chances are if you send it there it will get to where it needs to go, but also on reclaim charges articles theres a list of all the banks addresses

anyway good luck with that and keep us posted

If we were going to claim them, would we be advised to open new current accounts first?

yes it is advised you open a 'parachute' account just to be on safe side,
also as u said wld make sense to open one closer ;)

So if we were to do it would we have to open new accounts first?
Would it be worth him doing it at all?

    yes and yes :o

    good luck
    kind regards

I recently (May 07) begain the process of claiming back bank charges on our joint account. The total was £1300.00. Two months later we received the an offer of £1029.00 which we have accepted. Like Martin says in his literature, we thought that money had gone forever. Just follow the templates and info. GO FOR IT! Thanks Martin.

Well, I called them up today Cat, very polite but not much help... they are still looking at my claim.

Although, he did say they were 'working ahead of schedule' on the claims, so I should hear just before the date they gave me.

I might call again in a week ;) depends what sort of mood i'm in - if i'm chilled out, I'll wait for their letter!

2 and a bit weeks to wait then - and hopefully we'll get an offer :D - I'll let you know how it goes.

Digital TV, Broadband & Phone requirements - around £50 pm saved !
Don't let them Estimate! Gave Powergen a 'real reading' & got £122.16 back that I'd overpaid!
Mortgage Exit fee - £100 received from the Halifax - for just a phone call!
Woolwich - received £3,845 refund of bank charges :)
