  • Hi,

Thought that i'd let you all know that following these instructions and templates i claimed £1855 + interest of £151.14 on the 23rd March and on the 26th April i got a letter offering me £1391.25 which after a phone call where i tried to haggle a bit more out of them and was told that i have been offered the maximum i have decided to accept for ease and speed.

Question that i do have is i have just swapped my mortgage (the fixed rate has expired) and so my woolwich openplan account will revert to just being a normal current account, so i am told and i have also just received a letter telling me that it will actually change to being a Barclays account in July.

Have people had their Woolwich accounts cancelled/not transfered to Barclays after claiming charges back??

I really want to hold on to this account as had a few debt problems following the failure of my company and will find it hard to get another account.

Oh also Claiming £2800 from RBS, but only just sent the letter off 10 days ago so i'll tell you how i get on there!!

My OH has just had his transferred over to Barclays from Woolwich despite claiming the charges back. There was never a mention of closing his account.

Have you said that u would accept their offer yet? It may only take one letter threatening court for you to get the full amount back (approx another £500). We didn't get the interest back, but we did hold out for the full amount... If you can afford to wait a couple more weeks, u should go for it!

  • Did they take a long time to come back to you?

I have um'd and r'd about this for a few weeks and don't really want this to drag out for another month.

Did you get the full amount of the charges minus the interest?

I have to say that The Woolwich do appear to be pretty speedy up till now!

I sent my first letter (recorded) and got back a letter saying 'thank you for your complaint, we aim to resolve it by 18th May blah blah' a few days later.
14 days after they'd signed for the first letter (The PO website is good for SOME stuff!), I sen the letter threatening court action.
14 days after they signed for that letter, I filled with MCOL (cost me £50), we got a letter saying they'd refunded the total amount of charges, but they wouldn't refund the interest. I was happy with that!
Unfortunately I was a bit TOO strict with the timescales, so I lost my £50 court costs, so give them a few extra days after the court threat letter (maybe 20 in total), but you will get ur money back one way or another.
I think the max court cost is £120, so even if you file and then they pay ur charges back, ur still getting £380 more than they originally offered... And if u go to court and win, u'll get the whole lot (charges + interest + court costs back)

I hope that all makes sense!?!

Edit: In answer to the question, it was about 16 calendar days from when they got the letter threatening court that the money went into the account.

Also, if ur worried about ur bank account being closed, look at a basic bank account. My OH got one with the Halifax (he has a pathetic credit rating!) and they didn't even do a credit check, just an id/address check. He still can have access to DD's and SO's, has a debit card (only a Solo tho I think) and can access his account online.

Hi I was told from the woolwich that they would respond to me and my husband by the 11th and 14th may
My husbands was the 11th which was obviously yesterday there was no letter at all , we phoned up the new barclay number which was on our statement and they kept us on hold for 45 minutes,,in the end when the man came back on my husband asked to speak to somebody who could help us further, he passed us on to this lady who seemed helpful and she said this should have been sorted out by this date and she would speak to somebody and then ring us back but she didnt, I`m fuming as other people seemed to get theirs back sooner -this started 11 weeks ago with the first letter I am going to see if I get a letter on monday if not I am going to try phoning an other number I have just found from when they replied from my first letter and I am going to complain like mad and if no joy will have to threaten with court in the next week.
Didnt really want to do the court thing because they will probably take all the overdraft money back before giving us anything or could let us have the money and then say they are closing us down and want the od money back.

    An update....

They've filed their defence with the usual drivel claiming they have insufficient details or particulars. I guess I'll send them another copy of the last copy I sent with the LBA.
I'm really getting fed up now. They drag everything out cos it makes no difference to them but to us mere mortals it is nearly a life-changing amount when you have gone without for so long (£12,000 at last count). The other thing is that if they settled before it went to court they wouldn't have to pay intrest and could've saved themselves (and their shareholders) more than £3000!!!

This morning I received a form N173 Notice to pay fee.
The court dispensed with the filing of an AQ but still require a fee of £100. I was under the impression that dispensing with the AQ meant that there would be no fee. Anyone enlighten me please?

    Thanx,

    Hi
Am in the process of getting previous Bank Charges from Woolwich (S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) sent) 40 days is up on 2nd June, however I have already received a letter from them stating they will deal with my 'issue' by the 30th May. Sounds good.
My concern is that the switch to Barclays is happening during May, to be complete by the end of May, in fact my accounts have already been switched and new Barclays account numbers and sort codes allocated, all except the overdrawn account which I am asking for bank charges on. This seems to have disappeared.
What or who should I be contacting if by 2nd June no bank charge details are forthcoming, Woolwich will have effectively gone, and Barclays dont have a listing for this account?

    Anyone any ideas / thoughts?

You should definately contact the Information Commissioner, using ur old sort code etc. As far as contacing the bank goes, I don't really know what to suggest other than writing to them again, stating that you have also written to the Info Commissioner, which should spur them into action. Might also be worth giving them a phone call, and speaking to a senior person (again, mention that by law they only have 40 days, and you are going to write to the IC)
I wrote to the Woolwich, but used the Barclays HO address (1 Churchill Place).

That's all I can suggest for now... hopefully someone will come along with another suggestion.

    Good Luck

have just started the process of reclaiming my charges (have written out the letter) but am slightly worried as the woolwich has now (officially) become barclays and i have a new account number etc. Can anyone tell me if this will affect my claim I.e can they say it is not their problem?
