I've just called the Woolwich requesting a list of charges from the last 6 years and the guy on the end of then phone began to ask me questions such as "why was i requesting the list?" " what will i do with that information?" He then gave me a reference number and said i will receive a letter from the Woolwich listing their timescales?

Does anyone know why he asked me these questions? Should i go be the Woolwich timescales?
    Thanks

I sent my 1st request letters on Wednesday and telephoned them today to confirm they had received them. Was told by the woman I would get a response by 28th June. I intend to stick to the 14 day limit, 2nd letter, further 14 days as everybody says "you set the time limit, not the bank!" Hoping they refund in full like they did with you Sarah!!

I'm sure they will... if they decided to defend the case and actually take it into the court room, you can ask the court to make them prove that what they charge actually reflects the administration charge... which we all know it doesn't!

Make sure you keep us updated with ur progress. Luck!

  • My advice is to request for your charges in writing so that you have a record of your request. Step by step guides and the different letters to send can be found on this website.

In the first letter, details of why you are requesting your list of charges and what you intend to do with the information are also on the letter i.e. you are requesting this information under the data protection act and you intend to claim back all the charges that are unlawful and disproportionate. It also allows you to include the statutory maximum fee of £10.00 .

I hope this helps and good Luck with your claim!!!!!!

You should go with the timescales on here, NOT the ones the Woolwich give you. He has no right to ask you questions like that ... you're entitled to the information and can do with it what you wish. He's obviously suspicious that you're about to put in a claim ... they've probably been asked to put these questions to people, just another scare tactic:rolleyes: Ignore him and start your claim off.

By the way, as above, always best to put requests in writing ... you then have a record of them.icon7.gif

This is exactly what happened to me. I sent the second letter and there was no response, but two days after I filed with MCOL, they refunded all the charges, but not the interest. Just stick to your timescales, not theirs, and you will get ur money back.

    Luck

    Cheers Sarah, will do.

Possible to try and stall you. I think the banks are gonna start doing this in the hope that the FSA will make a quick decision and they don't have to give so much money back. If you write off asking for your list of charges, you have hard and fast proof of when you made contact, and also if you end up complaining to the Information Commisioner.
Stick to the timescales in Martins article, and don't let them try to stall or intimidate you, and you WILL get your money back!
Also keep posting here to keep us updated, and to ask if you have any more concerns

    Good luck x

  • Hi
Am in the process of getting previous Bank Charges from Woolwich (S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) sent) 40 days is up on 2nd June, however I have already received a letter from them stating they will deal with my 'issue' by the 30th May. Sounds good.
My concern is that the switch to Barclays is happening during May, to be complete by the end of May, in fact my accounts have already been switched and new Barclays account numbers and sort codes allocated, all except the overdrawn account which I am asking for bank charges on. This seems to have disappeared.
What or who should I be contacting if by 2nd June no bank charge details are forthcoming, Woolwich will have effectively gone, and Barclays dont have a listing for this account?

Hi Guy's, just wanted to say what a big surprise i got yesterday. I'm helping a few friends to claim back charges through different Banks. The Abbey have been the worst, just trying to get any information at all off them took 4 months (and then they only sent a years worth) However, sent off request letter for list of charges for my brother to the Woolwich 16 days ago and yesterday he got a statement (not bundles for the last 6 years) with every charge he's had against him for the last six year. They even included the codes relating to the charges so we knew what they were. And they returned the £10.00 cheque. Good news is they owe him nearly a £1000.00. Have simply copied the statement and sent letter asking for money back. Will let you guys know how we get on, Good luck everyone.
