Hi
I have just started the process of claiming charges back from the Woolwich - soon to be Barclays. I have just sent the letter asking for £3998.00 to be paid back. Have just realised how much the interest would be - only checked for £60 in 2001 and that was about £20 extra, so will try and work out the rest. Is it too late for me to now ask for interest on top? Have just received back letter from Woolwich saying will take them 1 month to reply to me, but they only have 1 week left of the 2 week deadline I gave in my letter
sorry if this has already been asked, but I'm stuck!0 -
I am reclaiming my bank charges from the Woolwich too. I followed the steps on Martin's website and used the template letters available.
I sent my request for the list of bank charges to the Woolwich Openplan Customer contact centre address and received a reply within 2 weeks. They sent me a full list of the charges (£1727) and they also returned my £10 cheque!!!!!
I then sent them a letter asking them to refund my charges (again using the template letter, and WITHOUT interest). They simply sent me a standard reply stating they the sorry I had a complaint, etc, etc. They promised to respond to my complaint by 22nd April, but this date came and went.
On 26th April I entered my claim on he MoneyClaim online website for the charges plus interest (£2080 including charges, interest, and court fee)
On 27th April I received a letter from Woolwich/Barclays (Woolwich references but Barclays headed paper) offering me £1295 (without admitting liability, of course!).
As it is too late to recover my court fee I will continue with the claim...
I'll post again when something else happens
THANKS TO ALL THAT RUN AND POST ON THIS SITE. I HAVE SAVED SO MUCH MONEY OVER THE PAST YEAR BY FOLLOWING ADVICE FOUND HERE.
STICK IT TO THE MAN!0 -
Well surprise, surprise.
Barclays (I feel I'm up against them now, not Woolwich) have filed a defence.
Now gotta wait for a court date.
Can they not be penalised for dragging this out and still having the inevitable outcome?

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen fairly soon, the courts must be getting a bit p****d off with the banks filing a defence, knowing full well they'll pay before it goes to court.
And I'm sure the delaying tactics they all seem to be applying are in the hope that the OFT will make a ruling sooner rather than later! Of course, if they didn't charge extortionate amounts in the first place.......'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
Hi am a bit of a newbie so not sure where to post this.
My question for anyone is about the amount of time I should wait between each letter. I have sent my third template letter to The Woolwich, each letter I post they reply at the very end of the 14 day timetable with a cursory response such as 'we are dealing with your request' and then they set their own deadline (usually another 3 weeks) in which they hope to 'resolve the issue'. Should I wait this long or should I carry on with the next letter. Thanks to anyone out there. xx0 -
You use the timescale as set out in Martin's article. If you have sent the final template giving them 14 days before you take them to court, then that's exactly what you should do: wait 14 days then take them to court. No point in sending any more letters.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

Woolwich Openplan are taking the full 20 working days regarding charges. An offer letter is sent out, if its over a certain amount it goes to another dept to deal with.
If you dont accept the offer. You need to higher than the bank.0 -
Hi,
I have recieved my list of charges as requested from the woolwich.
Also they included an offer for the full amount £260.00.
I am now sending a letter requesting the charges plus interest £360.00
Does this sound rightpaid all debts off 2024 yay0 -
Hi to everyone... a quick question to those of you who have already filed with MCOL.... Which address did u put for the Woolwich? I have been using the Clacton-on-sea address for all my letters, but I don't think this is the correct address to use for the claim.
I did also read somewhere (on this thread maybe!?!) that someone had their intial claim rejected because they used the wrong address...
Thanx
