What I'd really like to read right now is 'Sweetheart's (what a misnomer THAT is!) Mum's opinion of the unfortunate situation she finds herself in with no job and having to use up her savings to pay bills AND what she thinks about the appallingly insentive and selfish way her daughter writes about her on a public forum.

Don't worry! this is probably a wind up. It sounds like it's been written by a 15 year old trying to have a bit of fun.

My friend offered me her flat for £500 a month all in. thats all bills rent - everything. I'd take it but I'm trying to save up to go back to Uni to do my Masters. My Mum knows this but is still insisting I pay £100 a week. She doesnt seem to care about my future.

You are an adult with a degree.
You future is up to you.

My masters will cost me a thousands and I'd have to give up work or work part time. Surely any mother would see that its important.I just dont think its fair shes not taking this into account

    Your masters is your responsibility.

I probably didnt get my point across as I wanted. My point was, if my friend can offer me an all in apckage for £500 - fopr everything - all bills - the lot, then how can my Mums monthly outcome be over £1200?

I tried to speak to her today and told her that I wanted to go back to Uni but she said she that has no bearing on what I give her.

AAgree 100% it has no bearing on what you give her.

If you dont want to pay then move out & your mum can get a lodger who will be happy to pay.

Wow, if the £400 covers all bills and food, what on earth are you planning on spending the remaining £800 a month on!! You should consider yourself lucky that you will have such a large disposable income. There is no way you would get such a bargain if you moved out, especially in London.

If I were you, I would bite her hand off at the offer. Then save as much as possible of the £800 you have left over so that you can move out and get your own place once your Mum has found a new job and got herself sorted. Your Mum is probably stressed enough right now, so perhaps you should just get on with it and pay the £400 a month without complaining so she has one less thing to worry about.

Try not to be so selfish and try supporting your Mum emotionally and practically. I.e. be a bit more mature and why not help her with looking for new jobs, filling in application forms and looking at reducing your household expenditure.

i doubt that we'll hear from the OP again ...she hasn't heard what she wanted to, and sadly I don't think that we will have convinced her that she was in the wrong!

I think the same - although how someone can continue to believe her attitude is perfectly reasonable in the face of so much opinion to the contrary astounds me.

I wonder if Sweetheart realises that if she moved into her own place she'd still have to pay the rent and bills on that even if she was out most of the time? ;)
