Me too, me too.
Been to SW 3 times in the last 15 years and lost around 2 stone each time and after finishing put it back on again - slowly, but still it went on. I don't want (can't afford) to join yet again so have got the books out for a read, but really I know what I should do, but yet ......!
My OH is a dreadful eater in that he eats everything in sight, puts loads of weight on, then starves himself to lose it! I get really mad at him as he yoyo's way more than me and has to have about 3-4 wardrobes of different size clothes! At least I can just about squeeze into a size 14 bottom/16 top and when at my slimmest a size 12 bottom/14 top. I'm happy when I'm at that size so I need to get motivated again as summer is coming and I won't be able to hide under a baggy jumper!
Another thing I find is that because I'm top heavy, I can look 'fatter' than somone who's same weight/height as me but has small boobs! That's just not fair!
I have a friend who's lost 3st on SW and tells me all the time what to eat - very annoying TBH! I wish her well, but she's also done it before and put it all back on + more - but I don't like to remind her.
My plan is to up the exercise - drink more water (started that) and less sweet things. So far I've lost a couple of lbs so I'm feeling good about that and once it starts to go down it does boost your morale to keep on going.
Good luck to all you who are starting out and hopefully we'll read about all your weight loss journeys!"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -
My advice fwiw is: take care of your health and let your weight take care of itself.
If you're getting enough water, sleep, exercise and fresh fruit & veg, you're not smoking, you avoid excess stress as far as possible, and you go easy on the booze, and junk food, then you'll be happier and healthier whether or not you get thin. Shouldn't that be the point?0 -
The real problem for me has always been getting my head in the right place.
I decided last Sept that I had to do something and am now just over two stone lighter. Not quick, because I decided to relax a bit about eating and drinking when socialising, then try to make up a bit the rest of the week.
This works for me as it both stops me craving things or beating myself up when I have 'diet unfriendly' food (or drink).
I am now a size 14 top 12 bottom and want to lose another stone and half, putting myself squarely in the middle of the 'healthy' band (I am only 5' 2").
I am in no rush though. I go on holiday in 6 weeks ( a VERY foodie trip around Georgia and SC), so plan on being pretty strict now before I go, then back to it after. I have sort of got into a way of eating now, and don't think about it much. I wouldn't knock any clubs or forums at all for support, but when it's pages of mouthful by mouthful diaries, for me it's kinda dull.
If you'll pardon the pun, I don't think there is 'one size fits all' with losing weight. In terms of the mechanics- energy in, energy out- yes, but in terms of getting really into doing it each has to find their own 'lightbulb moment' and then a way of living a different lifestyle that suits.0 -
i started yesterday. I had bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes for beakfast, toasted teacake and butter for lunch, for tea baked beans on toast (nimble bread) and a small low fat yogurt and a banana. That was all day.
So far today bowl of rice krispies and a choc biscuit, toasted tea cake with butter. Use semi skimmed milk.:footie:0 -
I don't mean to sound like a grump here but I think all of us know what to do. I personally don't need any tips or diet recommendations. The best and the most MSE way is to eat less, move more (to steal a WW phrase!!).
My problem and I supect all of our problem revolves around sticking to it and motivating ourselves. Stop putting cake in your mouth fatty - that is what I need people to shout at me! (Actually it's more like back away from the cheese and bread, porky)
I know what I need to eat, how much exercise I need to do, that I need to up my protein and cut back on carbs but for some reason I just strugle to get through one day like taht. I have to keep reminding myself it is one day at a time!House saving Targets:

Although sayingthat we don't need tips ....
red devil you are setting yourself up for a fail with a diet like that. Cut back on carbs a bit and up your protein in take. Also include fruit and veg as much as possible. I am obviously not doing any of these things myself BUT I know I should be!House saving Targets:

I must add that I don't believe in so called 'health food'. The only reason they call it this is because it ain't selling hence one minute it's good for you & the next it's bad .... I believe that we need a bit of everything in moderation.0

I agree with spugzbunny, and am so tired of losing and putting on the same stone and a half. When I eat what I should and go running,I feel better(physically and mentally). Yet I always end up stopping and going back to the stodge:o.
Anybody know how to stop this happening? Anyway,I have put the yum yums back in the kitchen,so that is a start...I think

Lost a lot of weight myself by eating high protein, low fat, low sugar, low carbs. Do this while taking a daily multi vit and mineral. Also, dont eat and drink at the same time as this washes the food out of your tummy quickly. Give this a try and see how you do.The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

My dear red devil, you are very carb-heavy! If this is your plan to lose weight it will be quite difficult I think. Do you find it difficult to eat fruit and veg? Really I think you need to up the protein and get carbs from wholemeal sources and fruit/veg and that way you will feel fuller longer for a start.
It takes a little organising and thinking about your diet to start introducing new stuff but please try if you can as your diet at the mo is simply bread, sugar, milk, butter.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0
