but what if you cannot exercise a lot? And you eat like a sparrow already?
Why can we not be happy being above average?
All fatties are treated the same which isn't fair on many..
I think if your overweight and happy fair enough, thats your choice. However the OP isn't happy with their weight and therefore came to ask for advice. Just as I don't think there is anything wrong with being overweight and happy I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to slim down a bit.0 -
Have to admit that I use food as a comforter for my sons autism / aspergers. I've now had enough and am going to be trying hypnosis on Friday. Looking forward to it!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Me! I am too fat, way too fat. I have always been a 'big girl' but am now approaching a size 22 and 16 stone so I am doing something about it. It is just over 8 months to my daughter's 18th birthday party, and I actually weigh the same now as I did a week before she was born! I have tried WW before, though not for a while, so I think I'm heading back there next week. I di use the Paul McKenna tape last year and that did work, so I may well listen to that now and again to inspire me too. I won't be a size 8 by her birthday, but I can at least try to be a size 16!0

Over here *puts hand up*
I have very severe PCOS and have struggled with my weight all my life. I'm 18.5 stone and size 24 on the bottom and size 20-22 on the top but recently I got to the stage where my size 26 uniform trousers were too tight and I knew it was time to do something! I dont eat much but I eat rubbish - I work shifts so eat at odd hours of the day.
My Mum is doing SW and says I should but the meetings round here are on a night when Im working, Mum got vouchers from her doctor and says I should but I work for said PCT and they're cutting EVERYTHING at the minute so I think its deeply unlikely I will get them. Have told Mum this but she doesnt really grasp this and has told me to stop making excuses
I've cut right back, Im basically living on Special K at the minute!!! I did 15km on the exercise bike yesterday and it about finished me off! Statistically I am overweight, not quite obese yet
.. BUT after DD3 I absolutely did not lose an ounce after she was 3 months old and the pregnancy puffiness had gone down. She was breastfed until she was almost 3 and it never made one iota of difference I was still 11stone 10. I never lost anything while breastfeeding.. and I'm just into year 14 of trying..
I am truly surprised - quite seriously and without any hidden meaning. I have a 2 year old and 3 year old and am still nursing both, to greater and (much) lesser extents. I am one stone lighter than before I was pregnant with my first child and if I lose one more pound (yes, one) then I'll be underweight for my height. Anyway...
I notice someone has mentioned the Special K diet. My sister assures me (from personal experience) that it works very well and you can easily drop one or two dresses sizes on it. Someone else has mentioned the "French Women Don't Get Fat" book. I've read it and it's ridiculous! The author's charming dad told her she looked like a sack of potatoes when she was younger. Her solution is to eat "apple pie" made with cabbage instead of pastry and to cook chicken in Veuve Clicquot champagne (she happens to work for the company). Oh, and someone else again mentioned drinking a glass of water when you feel hungry - that is a definite winning tip. Thirst really *does* feel like hunger. Drink the water first and then see if you're still hungry afterwards. (Although, maybe it's more likely in my case as breastfeeding makes me feel dehydrated all the time. And half the time you really will be hungry. But it's still worth checking.)0 -
And do remember to EAT by the way. If you're eating below 1200 cals a day your body will go into starvation mode and cling on to every bit of fat reserve you have. So crash dieting is not the way to go.
I keep minimilk icecreams in the house as they are only 30 cals (and 1pp in ww) so good for snacking, and NEVER buy biscuits as I know that I won't be able to stop at 1 or 2.
Cut right down on bread - it's just stodge, and to that stodge we add butter, so stodge and fat. Won't help you lose.
Start looking at healthier lunch options than sandwiches (crudites and rice cakes with hummus/couscous/noodles/soup)
Think of healthier ways of cooking the things you like. I have chips nearly every day, but made with butternut squash and frylight (free on ww). I actually prefer these to real chips now, much tastier.
Have lots of fruit around to snack on. I keep a bowl in the fridge with chopped up honeydew melon and red grapes - very filling and delicious.
Drink loads of water.
Try and incorporate 30 mins of cardio a day (I do Just Dance on wii as a game with my 2 year old, or a bit of wii fit, in addition to walking everywhere).
And remember if you have a bad day just draw a line under it and start afresh. I went a bit mad on the food at a kids party yesterday, but am just going to try and counter it with some more exercise today.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -

I feel like my entire adult life has been spent obsessing and struggling and cannot remember a time when i haven't been on a diet!! Finally thought i was on top of it about 12 years ago when got down to 8stone (I'm 5'6") although everyone else said I was far too thin and had a problem (I probably did actually, looking back!) Then got pregnant and put on 4.5stone - and gave birth to a 5.5lb baby!! Since then it's just got harder and harder to lose weight - I have to work so much harder and eat so much less to get the same result, especially after turning 40! It affects every aspect of my life, I am self conscious to a ridiculous degree and flinch every time DH puts an arm round me which is horrible for him and makes me feel incredibly guilty (it's not you, it's me!!!) Ended up at the doctor crying my lamps out - he wanted to put me on anti depressants but I told him I knew the issue and how i would be happy - just to get a bit of help with the weight loss!! I am now on Xenical and so far so cautiously good although the widely known side effects are real and i have to be 'prepared'!! Am currently about 12 stone and target is between 9.5 and 10. My problems will not end however if and when I get there as I'll then obsess about how to stay there!!!Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D0

I have to say I have this amazing diet plan - I do more exercise and I eat much less. Its brilliant!
I stopped eating crips, cakes, chocolate, ice cream, sweets and biscuits. I eat more fruit and veg, lean protein, nuts and moderate amounts of carbs.
I run 3 times a week.
Its boring sometimes, and hard work, there are no quick fixes, short cuts or magic beans. I fall of the wagon occassionally and get dishaeartened. But it costs me nowt and it really really works!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Right with you Rach. I've gone more down the exercise route, cut down vastly on alcohol and am quite controlled in the week with food so I can treat myself at the weekends.
It IS very hard work - there are NO quick fixes. It took me 8/9 months to lose 2 stone - which I think is great, but is far too slow a result for most people. However, had I barged in and lost that weight in 2 or 3 months I am not sure that I would've kept up the motivation. It would have seemed easier somehow. As it stands, because I know how hard it's been, and how you physically have to give it 100% there is far less chance I will lose the motivation to keep the good habits I've gained.0
