margaretclare wrote: »Incidentally, a lot of young women now blame pregnancy for putting on weight and not losing it. OK, you put on weight during pregnancy - the weight of a baby, plus increased blood supply, amniotic fluid and growth in size of uterus. All that goes once the baby is delivered. If you breast-feed you use up some of the fat laid down - Mother Nature doesn't know about bottle-feeding!!
Statistically I am overweight, not quite obese yet
.. BUT after DD3 I absolutely did not lose an ounce after she was 3 months old and the pregnancy puffiness had gone down. She was breastfed until she was almost 3 and it never made one iota of difference I was still 11stone 10. I never lost anything while breastfeeding.. and I'm just into year 14 of trying..
I had DD4.. no change.. ditto DD5.. though I lost 3 stone after having her.. and gradually regained it all.. I was still the same size clothes as my actual bone structure has alterred.. that has nothing to do with weight.. you can lose every fat cell in your body but broad pelvis will still be there. I am just over 12 stone now and DD6 if 7 months given time it could be lost and no doubt will be but to say pregnancy isn't an excuse is rubbish it shifts your bones, relaxes your muscles and ligaments and unless you do something radical like surgery it isn't going to alter.
at 82 my gran weighed 5.5 stone... she STILL wore size 16 trousers and skirts because of her pelvis width.
So while a lot of new mums still do have pregnancy weight to make them feel bad about having it 3 years later is really not helpful.. you were very lucky yours all went but many have had their entire physique alterred to the point it won't ever go back.. particularly if they had a section or multiple birth.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I'm sick of my weight.
So sick of it i joined SW and stopped taking my meds as the main side effect is weight gain. I also started taking (a lot) of laxatives. It didn't work.
But on psych's orders i'm back on the meds and have resigned myself to the fact there is no point in me trying to shift this weight whilst on these meds. It just isn't going to happen and there's no point in me beating myself up over it (as i have done since i joined SW, on weekly basis). It's particulary annoying as when i was 16/17 i went from a size 16 to a size 10 through sheer lack of appitite (caused by depression), sadly now i've gone the opposite way and binge eat. I put on about 4 stone when i came to uni, mainly through abusing alcohol (a 24 pack of lager would last 2 days max for example).
Once i've changed meds or come off them i will try to lose weight again. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Have a look and see what you think. It's easy, you won't be hungry and you will lose weight. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

basketcase wrote: »Watch the small print! It says elsewhere that, although zero pointed, fruit has a claorie count and should be eaten with caution! So you can, as one of my friends did, put on weight by "only snacking on fruit and that's zero points"
Thanks BasketCase, I did spot that in the small print. The way it seems to be set up is that the new points allowance takes into account that you will be eating a sensible number of portions of fruit a day - not shovelling it in
So I'm eating a couple of sml oranges and some grapes for snacks and things are going well so far! 0 -
I was until I read India and Neris idiot proof diet book. Works for me, I have lost just under 2 stone since Jan 10th (ish). I have hit a plateau now, but lost 1lb more this week and am maintaining my current weight. It's basically a v low carb diet which works great for me - I can't stop at one piece of toast....0

I'm fed up with my weight.
I was slim and healthy when I was a child and teenager.
I married young and as soon as we lived together, he changed and started abusing me.
From being a lovely size 10/12 and then being called a fat ugly waste of space, I got an eating disorder.
He took all my confidence and I ended up eating tiny portions in front of him then eating loads of bread, crisps, chocolate etc and throwing up, using laxatives or trying to starve myself.
I got rid of him, but have been left with mental scars and only now, after years of depression, can try and stick to a healthy eating plan.
I just want to be a normal size, not too thin. just right for me.0 -
I get so annoyed when you read some comments on the net about overweight people.
Especially when there is a discussion about gastric bands. Overweight people get called greedy, lazy, stupid and not deserving of help from the NHS.
Even some doctors think you are just greedy and need to eat less and move more. As if it is that easy to stick to.
We aren't stupid and know that!
Most of it is in your mind though and you need help sometimes, like seeing a therapist for support to lose weight.0 -
Yep hello me over here!
I lost 2 stone with WW. I am now back to the weight I was before - 2 months gao I was plus half a stone on top.
We all know what we need to do. Stop eating so much, eat better food, move more. WW and SW all work like a support system. Unfortunately I just seem to have lost my love for WW. I think about doing celebrity slim or something like that but at the end of the day I know I should just eat less and run more!!
What I hate the most is that i slip up or fill m face and I hate myself. Actually hate myself afterwards. Can't stop myself though! I tried on some clothes the other day and I just looked at myself and thought you are disgusting
Anyway - I've joined Spark People. It has some very good tools although it reacts a bit odd with my work PC for some reason! It basically does the same job as WW online or other such sites. You can track cals, exercise, read articles, even create your own page about you. The nutrition guide even tells you how much protein, carbs etc you have and the other members have uploaded so many UK foods it is untrue! I do like it BUT I'm still only being good maybe 4 days of the week and i can do A LOT of damage in the otehr 3!!
I swear I think I should just get fatty tattoo'd across my hand so when I see it looming towards my face with a big peice of bread and butter in it I can remember to stop!
if anyone wants to be my spark person friend - i think my username is the same on here as it is there!House saving Targets:

but what if you cannot exercise a lot? And you eat like a sparrow already?
Why can we not be happy being above average?
All fatties are treated the same which isn't fair on many..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Here are my random thoughts for those of us wanting to loose weight:
- read Allen Carr Easyweigh book
- read French Women Don't Get Fat book
- jump on the Wii when the kids aren't playing, even better if you have a Wii fit
- stop buying biscuits
- put chocolate in the freezer so it is harder to get to ()
- cycle to work
- cut down or stop drinking alcohol
