I am currently on Online Standard with Scottish Power and was going to switch to Online Energy Saver 13, but with the talk about energy problems triggered by the situation in Japan I am now wondering about going for the Capped Energy deal although it is going to cost more.
Any comments from the wise ones would be appreciated.
OK just read a bit more - looks as if I can't get ES13 as I am not a new customer - E.ON looks like a good alternative, but still the question of going for a capped rate.0 -

Yes you can. I was on Fixed Price Feb 2011. I phoned their CS and asked to be on ES13. Job done.More bearish than bullish at the moment0 -

Phoned CS and switched. Apparently it is a new product which is why it wasn't showing on my online account options.
Anyway I am on the list and will be transferred backdated till today.0 -
Used Energyhelpline this morning to see if Scottish Power online energy saver 13 is a good option for me (currently on online energy saver 9 and received email about their new online energy saver 9 (2012) offer) and it appears the comparison site is now using online energy saver 9 (2012) prices and NOT the old online energy saver 9 prices.....so much easier to compare. I tried using Energyhelpline a couple of weeks ago and it showed that OES13 was £95 more expensive than OES9, but now it says that OES13 is £35 cheaper for me....so something has changed!
OSE13 still the best option for me so phoned them up and switched, they said it could take 3-4 weeks but would be backdated to today.'Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it' - Albert Einstein.0 -
If the OES13 is more expensive than the old OES9 we were/are all on which ends at the end of April, why are people letting Scottish Power backdate the effective change date to before the end of the OES9 deal as surely that means you are paying more for an additional 6-8 weeks?0

On the phone, they say OES13 is cheaper than the current OES9.0 -

Well my "old" OES9 ends on 31st March so really couldn't be bothered to argue over a week or so'Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it' - Albert Einstein.0 -
I have just checked out my account on SP website and clicked on the link 'Change my Service'. Under Please Select the type of Product you would Prefer select "All". You are then presented with a choice of eleven different tariffs which you can study, print out, make a decision on and sign up for online. Looks pretty comprehensive to me.
I have some studying to do now before I decide.0 -
Recently got the email reminding me my SP dual fuel contract ends 31/03/11. Only with SP since April 10 so don't have full year of bills to do comparisons based on usage, but on the last bill (January) they had projected my costs for the next year. Phoned them and asked what kwH estimates they had used and they took current reading (today, so 11 months in to the year) and did a quick calculation for annual consumption, then said what that would cost for a year at current prices - which was very close to their January estimate.
So far so good.
BUT BUT BUT BUT...
They were offering to extend my contract for another year on the same tariff, online energy saver 9. I asked about the later incarnations of their energy saver tariffs, e.g energy saver 13 which is the latest version. Using the same kwH usage estimate the projected cost at current prices came out £157 CHEAPER than renewing my current tariff would have cost me.
Of course I asked why they were not already offering the cheaper tariff and got the expected waffle about different areas having different pricing structures and there being too many customers to review each one individually... what a load of tosh ... it can't be difficult these days to programme a compute to do that very quickly, they just don't want to 'lose' the £157 extra profit!!!
I'd like to have told them where to go, but U-switch can't better the lower SP price even allowing for the incentives, so as it's more than a tenner a month saving I think I'll be sticking with SP for another year.
The moral ... don't let them fob you off with extending your contract on your current tariff!
Hope this helps someone out there, good luck.0 -
Hi
I wouldnt touch Scottish Power with somebody elses bargepole! They automatically transfered me to another tie-in which was more expensive than other tariff they had available.
I switched supplier and now they are charging me £50 for leaving them as I did not respond to an email they sent me which they say I have read.
Had I have read it I would have dumped them then.
Whatever happened to offer and acceptance?
I am going to take this matter as far as I can.
