End of Scottish Power deal..what now ?

Hi
I was with Scottish Power and as far as I was aware my contract expired November/December 2010.
After doing a check on the comparison sites I found I was not on the most economical tariff with them and switched to another supplier.
I have just received my final bills and have been charged a termination fee of £30 for Electricity and £20 for gas.
Reading the previous posts I can only assume I have missed an email from Scottish Power offering me the option to opt out!
I have emailed Scottish Power, but they have not replied.
As I am currently unemployed and looking for work I can ill afford these charges.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Can Scottish Power transfer me to another contract without me opting in?
Marg
Hi Marg,
Unfortunately, on many tariffs it is standard to charge a cancellation fee when you switch to another supplier. Notice of this is in the terms and conditions. It sounds like you're in a slightly different situation to us in that your deal ended, so you went on to another tariff with Scottish Power (because you didn't do anything at that point - no, you don't need to opt in if your current deal is ending) and then switched mid term from there.
I hope I'm understanding your situation correctly, but it sounds like that's what happened. The terms and conditions must vary according to tariff though, so look up what tariff you were on and check your terms and conditions.0 -
I had a standard letter telling me that my contract with SP would revert back to a standard tarrif when it ended on march 31st ,I had the option of another rate too,I didnt like the sound of either and coincidentally was contacted by Energy helpline.I was given a quote for a new one year contract with BG and decided to take it.
On February 9th 2011 I went on to Sp's website, hoping to find either a template for contract termination or some general advise Ha! ,what i found was an e mail option, I duly filled this in with my Account number and MPAN number and sent it to SP, I received two confirmations back. I thought that i might receive something in a letter but when nothing had been received about two weeks ago, I rang them up, they said they had no record of my contract termination. I said I could send them the two confrmations ,they said they needed the sent e mail too. Well ,call me cynical or paranoid but I couldnt find that sent e mail in the sent folder but did find it after an extensive search! I attached these e mails and sent them back , I recived no reply.A couple of days later, I received a call from the Energy helpline saying that SP had blocked me leaving them as they had not received by termination. I rand SP and they said that the problem had been theirs and everything was sorted, so you may imagine my surprise when today I received two letters in one envelope one dated march 8th one dated march 9th (today is March 15th)
The March 8th letter confirmed my contract termination. The letter dated march 9th said that they had objected to the transfer to BG as I hadnt given 30days notice in writing and telling me that there is a current contract in place. Words like left hand and right hand come to mind.I am so angry that this has been made so sdifficult, if they offered a decent contract when one ended they wouldnt lose customers. If I dont get this sorted once and for all tomorrow I'm going to make an official compalint.ARE YOU READING THIS, SCOTTISH POWER OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE, ARE YOU DELIBERATELY MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE OR ARE YOU JUST TOTALLY DISORGANISED.?0 -

I rang Scottish Power on Monday and asked to be transferred on to the Online Energy Saver 13 tariff. The lady said she would change me on to that on the same day as it was cheaper than my current tariff (it's not according to my research but never mind, as long as it's cheaper after April).
I've just checked my online account though, and it still says I'm on OES9. Did anyone notice how long it was before their change showed online?0 -

Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Hi welshblackhorse
I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience you have experience in trying to terminate your contract. My advice to you would be to call our business team as soon as you can to confirm exactly what is happening with your account and why you are receiving conflicting information. If the transfer has not already been processed, you may also wish to see if we can offer a competitive rate.
Please let me know if you have any further difficulities and I will be happy to help.
Kind Regards

So OLE 13 is cheaper than OLE9, and some people have no problem getting them to move, and some people have been refused?0

I also rang on Monday and changed from OES9 to OES13. The lady I spoke to said it could take up to four weeks for my account to be showing the update but I will be charged at the OES13 rate from the day I rang to change so I wouldn't worry about it.He who smiles rather than rages is always
