Just had an email from Scottish Power informing me that my tariff deal is ending soon (Online Energy Saver 9...ends 31/03/10)
Apparently i will be automatically put on a new tariff (Online Energy Saver 9...april 2012 offer...guaranteed 3% discount on standard charges).
Now i know these deals have some expensive lock ins....but what Scottish Power neglect to mention, is ...what happens if im not happy with this new deal and when can i leave without penalty...or at least look to see if im being offered a competitive deal from them ?

I have received the same email. If you scroll down just below item two (in orange) under the heading "Don't think this is right for you?" there is an option to revert to the standard tarrif. If you don't do this before 30th April you will be transferred and locked in to the Online Energy Saver Nine 2012 tarrif for another 12 months with penalties if you transfer to another provider.
I have had a quick look at the detail and gas prices are taking a real hit. A particularly nasty detail is the first 100kWh at a higher rate has now been increased to the first 670kWh this is before the rate hike on the two part normal and night tarrifs. I think I will be looking for a move.0 -
I got the same one today. I'm most likely going to change supplier but am wondering about the timing. I presume I wait until 31 March, opt out and swap supplier. It's just the question of when to put the wheels in motion to spend as short a time as possible on the SP's standard tariff.0

I wrote this in another SP thread, but it fits here too:
My existing OES9 contract is due to finish at the end of March, and SP wants to put me onto their new OES9 tariff (http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pdf/SCP3003-Mar2011.pdf). It says the new OES tariff has a minimum 3% discount on SP's standard monthly Direct Debit prices until 31st March 2012.
That sounds fine, but I don't know how it compares to other tariffs. The Energyhelpline comparison web site appears not to list the new OES9 tariff when I do a comparison search, instead it suggests SP's OES13 is the cheapest tariff.
Any clarification on how competitive the new OES9 tariff is?0 -
Hi assscat
Have a look on our website and get the unit rates for our Online Energy Saver 13 tariff and compare these against the OLE9 tariff you are being offered. See link below for the OLE13 unit rates:

i am in the same situation.
online energy saver 13 does look cheaper than the renewed offer of online energy saver 9.
energyhelpline says it is the next cheapest....by a £87 increase. nothing out there is cheaper now.
eon are the next at £98 pounds increase (saveonline 5). with cashback at £50.50 (topcashback). this is more tempting. there's no cashback for going onto a new scottish power tariff is we just move across as we aren't deemed a new customer.

I have the same e-mail, what is most annoying is that when i used a comparrison site with what i thought was that tarrif and a whole year's data they said that that was the cheapest I could get, grrrrr0
-
I got the same email as well.
The worst bit is not only does it not tell you what to do if you want to switch to a new supplier, it fails to mention that the new tariff is significantly more expensive than the Online 13 tariif they are offering new customers - so don't stick with the one they offer you. I'm a low user (700 a year) and the deal they are offering is 80 quid more expensive than the online 13 tariff.
I'm toying with switching to EDF on a price fix until Sep 2013, it's around 70 quid a year more than the cheapest I found (eon), but still 26 quid cheaper than the new tariff Scottish power are offering me.
Given current oil prices, I think a fix to the end of 2013 is a good bet at the moment.
* Goes back to complicated spreadsheet to review my options before making a choice *
What's anyone's thoughts on fixing to 2013?0 -
Have you looked at OVO?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

Theres another thread on here where people were saying SP call centres were telling customers that OES 12 was only available to new customers
MSE users had gone back to SP saying they definitely wanted OES 12 or they would have to move suppliers . Outcome was that SP call centre persons checked with their managers and the move to OES 12 was made as 'an exception'
When my SP fixed rate 2011 finished at the end of Feb, I only got round to looking for something else a few days ago. The email hadnt offered OES 13 to me. I rang them up and asked for it. First contact told me that like the OES 12 had been, it was only for new customers - I pointed out that that wasnt the experience of MSE readers and I would have to go for BG if I couldnt have it. She checked with manager and yes, I can after all as a special 'exception'. So, always worth a try. Mind you I was told my DD would probably go down as it was a better tariff , but its gone up £10 a month .0 -
