  • Hi

I would like to join the gang but (and excuse me for not knowing) I have just had my lightbulb moment this week and dont know what a DMP or such like is.

Please can someone explain what it is?

    Thanks

    Heddwen

    Hello All Mutual Supporters

Im feeling quite upbeat today, had my daily phone call from bank of Scotland, again perfectly pleasant & nothing at all from anyone else!
Managed to get to 1000 lightspeed points, woohoo, thats a £10 voucher.

Havnt spent anything today, but need bread & milk, need to scour the house for pennies!

Welcome Heddwen! A dmp is a debt management program. They are administered by charities such as Paypal & CCCS. There are also commercial companies that do them, but dont go near them!! They also offer good advice on the best way to tackle your debt.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :j

  • Posted off offers to creditors and need a hug now! a bit scared that some of them will not accept.considering claiming fees back from A&L but not sure if it's worth it, I am otherwise satisfied with them and because I live miles from civilisation I need to do my banking in the local PO. What do you reckon?

  • Hi all mutual supporters! Got a bit of good news today, my bank are not going to demand repayment of the mortgage & have agreed to work with cccs to get the loan & overdraft on the dmp. Yippee!

No phone calls at all today, also yay! Some credit card bills have come in with scary minimum payments on them, most ccs are still adding fees and interest, trying not to let it bother me!

Funny thing, before my LBM I barely looked at the interest charges, now Im aghast, as in HOW MUCH! ARE YOU MAD???

Hi loneranger, regarding reclaiming bank charges, depends how much it is whether it is worth the hassle, you would probably have to change banks....

    Big hug anyway!

  • Good morning Everyone

Quick update, almost fell off the wagon last night - was SO in need of an evening's shopping (I live 20mins from Bluewater!!!) Had dreamed of all the lovely things I would like - and of course don't need. I've always spent money as a quick pick me up and I'd had a !!!!!! day at work, any other time it would have been a quick spin down the road and a couple of hours retail therapy. Was just preparing to go when I got a call to say my son (who was supposed to be on a sleepover) would be coming back as one of the kids in the other family had fallen down stairs and looked like he had broken his arm - so they were off to A& E and sleepover was cancelled. As my son doesn't have the shopping gene (is it only women?) the thought of dragging him around the shops for two hours was deterrant enough and so my outing was abandoned. I reckon I probably saved myself in excess of £80 just be staying home so thank heavens for that - Oh and thankfully arm wasn't broken and the sleepover is back on tonight. Now I just have to talk myself out of it again tonight!!!

Got a shopping target today of a budget under £70 which might be a wee bit tricky as freezer is empty and also need Nappies and Milk for Child Number 2. Off to Sainsbury's this morning as I've got a "save £12 if you spend over £60" voucher - so that will help.

Hope you all have a great money saving day. Catch you later

oh JoJo 5 mins from Bluewater if you were an alcoholic it would be like living next door to a pub. I live 10 mins from Braehead which is a small version of Bluewater and I work in Glasgow shopping capital of the north. Must resist temptation!!

Well done to you for not giving in to your retail therapy urges and congrats a child saved you money for once ;) That must be a first

  • Hello eveyone - How is your weekend going?

Haven't heard from many of you over the last few days - hope you are all doing ok and not getting down at the thought of the way forward. - Don't be a lurker stop by and say hello.

How are people doing with contact from CCs etc? Mine all seems to be very quiet at the mo. I think it's the calm before the storm as my monthly payments are only now becoming overdue so I assume the system only really kicks in once you haven't paid - what do you think?

On the money saving front; I'm still selling bits on ebay and clicking through pigsback. I've done a couple of surveys this week (50p a time) it's a bit of a slog but totals are starting to grow. My grocery bill was £81.16 yesterday but I did do several bulk buys (nappies etc) so that will save money in the long run and got the dog food for a whole month. Have got to put petrol in the car so that will gobble up the last of my cash till payday on Thursday : ( But I did get out of a long journey yesterday - friend offered to drive, I didn't argue!!

Have set up my A & L account with paypal but the payment has been returned not recognised - right pain as I'm counting on that money to pay my son's french trip - Will have to look into problem - seems the account number is too long (9 figs instead of 8) really don't want to have it paid into First Direct as I had a letter from them warning me that my "Banking facilities maybe withheld while I deal wit my financial problems" wonder if that's standard or a result of me asking for details to reclaim bank charges?!

Anyway today I will be working on clearing a little more paperwork, yet more bits on Ebay - mainly baby stuff and a few dvds which seem to sell really well (If anyone's thinking of doing the same - best prices are if you do 7 day auction ending on a sunday evening when more buyers are around haha I'm becoming an ebay expert :: David Dickenson Eat your heart out!)

Have applied to AQA about 2 weeks ago but not heard anything yet - Has anyone else been accepted recently?

Oh and the sleepover was last night so saved on food (My son could eat for England! and Electricity by having an early night).

Hope you have all had a successful weekend.

Hi JoJo - just quickly on the A&L thing - I think for that kind of purpose you drop the first digit of the 9-digit account number. It's just the final 8 that constitute your account number and the first one is for A&L's purposes only.

I've just got opened an A&L account and had the same problem, but all working fine for me now.

Sympathes re the French trip - I have twins going to France next month. Trip is paid but not the spending money. Why did they have to do it in december?!

  • Thanks ffor that - useful to know -I'll give it another go without the first number.

France for Twins - Ouch! that must have been tough to find- out of interest, did the school give you a family discount as you have twins, I ask because I'm a teacher and that's the set up we have for our school journeys etc - Bad timing on the trip so close to Christmas but I bet the school got the price down because of the time of year. My son starts Secondary next year and the school journey is to New York !!!gulp!! think that one will be a No!

Jo Jo any dvds in particular? I stopped selling dvd 's on ebay earlier this year as the ones I was selling just weren't shifting. I am glad its working for you though school trips can be expensive. I had to pay out for skiing in January this year not a good month at all.

  • Hello hello everybody.

Had a really restless night sleep last night, thinking about money etc..I've kind of come to the realisation that I need to bring more money in if I am going to shift my debt sooner rather than later. Although I am being careful not too spend unnecessarily - although this is so hard...

I am working at home tomorrow (which in itself saves me petrol) so during a break, I will contact local estate agents in the area to see about a Saturday job with them. There are quite a few in my local area, so will try them first (have no estate agent experience as such, but can do marketing, admin, answer phone etc). Then I will make a list of other companies in the area I can contact. I'm a bit nervous about it, but really want to get this thing licked.

Have also been thinking about moving my credit card and overdraft debt to another credit card (the 0% on my current CC is due to end soon) - so will need to do some homework on that

I was tempted to pop out today and do some 'window' shopping (been thinking I need a new top for work). But totally scrapped that idea and my husband and I have spent the morning doing some cleaning and plan to watch a DVD this afternoon (and probably finish off the vienetta that's lurking in the freezer!).

That's it for me for now...
