  • hi, i sent my £10 away with martins letter to nationwide, i received a list of charges back, what i need to know is can i claim all the charges that they have sent me back as some of these say interest charge. Im not sure but i think martins letter is only asking for certin charges is this correct or is the letter asking for all charges? or have nationwide sent me all chargers or just the charges i can claim for?

    thanks mark

Have a read of the Reclaim Help Thread for what charges you can and can't claim, you'll find the thread linked in my signature along with other FAQ.
  • Sent a letter to Nationwide asking for charges on 3rd April. Had heard nothing by 13th May (40 days) so called my local branch. They said that letter had been forwarded to Swindon. £10 cheque was cashed on 23rd April. I called Swindon who tried to tell me that the 40 days started from when the chq was cashed. I refused to accept that and told them 40 days was from date of my letter and that they had cashed my chq and i wanted requested details 7 days from date of phone call or i would make a complaint to the ICO.

Lo and behold, list of charges arrived 4 days later. And not a big pile of statements that i had to trawl thru, just a list of charges for the last 6 yrs...Hurrah :T

Well i'm looking at a claim for approx £4500 which includes interest charges. I've drafted a copy of the second letter, tho added a bit respectfully asking them to pay without going thru court and incurring further charges. I've also asked them to reconsider further charges due to be taken from my account next month to the tune of £140.

Will it work???? Doubtful!!! But i'm prepared to go all the way...will keep you updated :D

Oh....and i still have an issue with Nationwide for the fact that i am unable to understand what exactly justify's their charging £30 per returned chq/DD when they do not even send out letters informing of that fact?? Administration costs??? What administration costs???

    Nationwide
    Total with interest £3473.53
    Court costs £120
    Amount received to date £3430.39

First letter sent 28th March 2007 requesting the total with interest
Reply sent from Nationwide with the usual useless info stating that they will not refund
Second letter sent 17th April 2007
Reply from Nationwide with useless info again (very promptly though enabling me to start the online claim!)
MCOL submitted on 22nd April 2007
Claim issued 23rd April deemed served on 28th April
Nationwide solicitors acknowleged on 27th April (promptly yet again!) with intention to defend
therefore 25th May was judgement day

18th May...£3040.12 credited to account with futher £390.27 credited today.

Keep the faith, follow the very simple instructions and you will suceed. Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to post their advice and to Martin for providing us with the tools.

Most of us are clobbered with extortionate charges when we are already suffering hardship for one reason or another, none of us delights in being overdrawn and at the mercy of these big organisations, for all the stress Nationwide has thrown at me over the last year or so ......for refusing to refund any charges when I already in great distress having lost my mother unexpectedly (my husband is self employed and had to look after my children whilst I was at the hospital with my mother therefore we had no money coming in for a few days and incurred bank charges of over £200) to the pathetic woman who kept on quoting they are fair and we will not refund anything...............RESULT!!!!!! • I have recieved £3500 of £4800 that I was claiming, did the MCOL thing now I have just recived an "Order of stay" letter from the court stating the claim is stayed until 15th june to enable parties to attempt settlement.
I am getting fed up now, I started the claim on 18th December asking for the charges to be refunded.
I do not know what to do about this latest hurdel the Nationwide have put in the way.
Has anybody else had this treatment from them.

Hi just a question if any one can help, as I wrote earlier I am claiming against Nationwid and it's gone thru the court where Nationwide said they are going to defend my claim (as per) and gave me the name of the acting solicitor (same as other folks with the look of it)
Now what happens ?/ will they file a defence and then I wait for a court date or have they been paying up just before a court date is issued??.
Also when I first started my claim it was for the charges up to Dec 06 and that's what I put in my claim with the court, but since then I have been hit with more charges and they are now £200 (I've been out of work since last Oct and cancelled all direct debits but 2 wasn't stopped in time and I was hit with charges (in my statement of Jan 07) I asked the bank to freeze my account due to financial difficulties and was told ok. Today I received bank statement and have been hit with more charges as in unpaid dd fee then un/auth od fees taking me to £200 overdrawn. Great even tho all standing orders n dierct debits re cancelld. Would I be able to claim these back or should I pay up if I win my case ???

Hopefully this means you've won. You need to press the judgement button and all the best.
Sometimes during the 24hr period the bank defend and it has been known for the court to allow this.

But fingers crossed it looks like you've won
