Hi
Thought I would let everyone know what Nationwide have done. My son has been claiming his charges back from NW although I have been doing all the correspondence and he has signed all the letters. He is claiming back charges on two accounts. We stated the account numbers clearly on all correspondence. We started the court process on 23rd March and when I was setting this up with MCOL I put my name down for correspondence to be sent to. The 28 days is up tomorrow and today I received a letter from NW, addressed to me, informing me that they had refunded £155.95 in charges, credited £120 to cover costs and a further £64.53 representing interest charged dating back 6 years. To begin with I thought that this was a part payment on my son's account, but imagine my surprise (and a little bit of glee!) when I realised that this had been refunded to my personal account, and that the charges schedule they had enclosed referred to my personal account. I didn't even claim back any charges from them for myself!! Anyway, I checked my account and there was a "Correction" creddited to my account for £155.95 but the other two amounts were not there? Do you think I could be cheeky enough to ring them up and ask where these are?
On the downside, when iI checked MCOL I found that they had put in a defence for the full amount for my son's charges (the day before the default date) and we now have to wait to hear about a court hearing. Has anyone idea what might happen next? They call me Mr Pig!0 -

I am writing today to tell them that I am disappointed with their refusal to refund & that I am giving them an opportunity to reconsider their decsion or I will start court proceedings
Hiya,
I wouldn't bother, just start your claim with the court. Nationwide are not paying up unless court proceedings are in process.0 -
Perhaps so but you should send out the letter before action giving the bank 14 days before you start court action.0

Okay I am about to do the MCOL thing.
Problem is that we dont really use the Nationwide account that we are claiming off and my hubby and I have decided on a no frills, no overdraft, no debit card basic bank account. I could have had one but because of this debarcle with Nationwide hubby cant.
Anyway I dont know if anyone else has done this, but when filing the MCOL forms do you know if it is okay to pay the court fees (in our case £250) to someone elses account to put the forms through?0 -
Hi All,
Just about to start this process. Am going to send my first letter and £10 cheque off this weekend. Just wanted to check the address to send my letter to, should it go to the branch or the head office?
Also do I just make the cheque payable to 'Nationwide' or 'Nationwide Building Society'?
Thanks,

I am new to this site but most intrigued with the views and comments about the Nationwide Building Society and the way in which they appear to throw substantial sums of customers money at defending claims for unfair bank charges. It would appear that each and every time the bank stretches a claim out to the last moment only to cave in and pay out in full. By which time a single claim has probably cost them several hundreds, if not Thousands of pounds of customers money. This would appear to be pointles when they actually know that they will in the end be paying out. To date they have never actually 'won' a case.
Is it not time that a campaign was started to get the board of directors to stop wasting so much money on a matter they will pay out on anyway, or at least until their is a legal ruling to the contary or, if this goes against their principals, to stand down from their position. The AGM is not far away, now surely is the time to stand up and be counted and vote. The thought of losing a position on the board and substantial sums of income and rewards will make them sit up and listen and act.
I am not a Nationwide account holder but am involved in helping someone who is. I just believe that its time to get the customers to act and make the directors listen and take sensible actions.0
