OMG!!! Just logged into Nationwide again and they've paid me in full!!!! (Minus the court costs!!)
So good luck everyone else and don't worry)
What happened to the court costs?
This is over a £100 for me so I do not want to lose it seeing as I have already started my claim and paid it out.
Also how long does it take for them (Nationwide) to cough up? I recieved a letter from them on the 11th April saying that "on this occasion only, the charges you questioned are now in the process of being refunded".
Cheers,
Mike0 -
I started my claim on the 18th April with my local court, by now in theory nationwide should have been served their papers, I have had no corespondence whatsoever from the court at all, I was expecting to atleast have my copy of my claim back by now.
I rang the court this morning and was informed that there is a huge backlog of claims and that the initial serving of papers is taking longer than the 5 days specified and can run into 14. Anyone else having this problem, its frustrating!!!!0 -
I have just posted my online court thingijigi and await with baited breath from the Nationwide for them to react. During this time of me posting my online court thingi i received a letter from the Nationwide saying that they are sorry but they cant give me my bankstatements as I did not enclose £10. The cheque was actually received and cashed back in Feb. I have not had a good response up to now from them as they say only in certain circumstances can they refund charges. I am more worried about the bank closing my account as the whole family bank with them. Has anyone been succesful with the Nationwide claiming charges and if so did they close your bank account?0

Just checked my accout this morning and there have been 3 corrections to the value of £1898.
Not bad but my claim was for £2145 plus £120 court costs.
There is a difference of nearly £400.
That is a hell of a lot of money to me.
Should I carry on with the case or inform the court that it has been settled?
Cheers,

To all of you once again.
It is absolutely clear that you will get nowt out of Nationwide unless you sue them.
They will wait until the twenty eight days are up and then pay out before a default judgment can be entered.
They may not pay in full, excluding interest and court fees, but I would continue with the claim until met in its entirety.
The bosses must have made a commercial decision to obfuscate claims as far as possible, and they are hoping that many claimants fall by the wayside after receiving the knock back letters.
They must have worked out that it's cheaper to be sued rather than pay out willy nilly as Halifax appear to do.
The fact that Nationwide is a mutual Building Society and Halifax is a commercial bank, beholden to its shareholders, rankles somewhat.
They have said in the Press that they will not close your account, but may well do so if you incur charges in the future.0 -
Hi,
I have written to NW 4 times, requesting refund of £700 charges, the last reply arrived today which was a copy of their third, they say it wont be fair to other customers if they refund my charges and not theirs, so they wont be refunding mine. I cant afford the court fees , so what can I do next?(if anything)
thanks

Hi Mike,
Well their 28 days was up on Monday just gone. In the morning there were no corrections in my account and MCOL didn't mention defence. By the afternoon there were two corrections in my account - making the whole payment - minus the court costs. As of today still no letter from nationwide explaining anything - but by Tuesday MCOL had defence logged. When I checked my account yesterday Nationwide had also cash credited the £120 and I hadn't even had to ask them for it! So I got every penny of my claim back £1491. Good for me as I was made redundant from 10th April and haven't secured a new job yet.
Don't give up!
