Good news folks - Nationwide apparently filed a defence last week, though I've yet to recieve anything from the courts; but today I've been credited £112.31 as a 'CR' (Credit by Cash) and £671.97 as 'CN' (Correction) - Total £784.28 - Which is nice as I was claiming for £602plus £80 court fees! I assume the extra is taking into account the further charges they've imposed since I started my claim in January - Either way I'm not complaining!:T  :j
So for anyone out there worrying about Nationwide playing games - Good luck, and keep going, they'll crack before you do!
Next up: Barclays for about £700 and Barclaycard for about £600; then we'll see about Capital 1 and Natwest...
Power to the people and all that!:D

Hiya - I've read the majority of this thread (still working my way through it) and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice please...
I sent off the first letter dated March 9 (but think it was actually posted on the Sat) giving Nationwide 40 days notice that I wanted a note of the last 5 (Scotland) years of bank charges. 40 days will be up this Thu but for some reason, I got it into my head that it would be today so have printed off another letter to "hurry them up a bit" and dated it Tue 17 April.
Should I give them until Thu to respond or do you think I should just send off this letter? I would call them up but not too sure if the local branch would be able to help any, or would they be able to get me a head office number to call? Plus not very confident on the phone - I'd probably just rant and rave at them and end up getting nowhere.
They cashed my cheque to cover the costs of sending out the information, so as far as I'm concerned just now, they have comitted fraud by not keeping up their end of the bargain. I can access about 18 months worth of charges and in that time alone it's quite a substantial amount so I wouldn't like to take a guess at what it'll be over the last 5 years!
Sorry for asking all these questions, just would rather do this on my own than pay for one of these companies that charge you on a no win no fee basis.
Thanks for any help offerred - Paula
Here is the letter I got from another poster when the bank doesn't respond within the 40 days...
Re. Account number: ****** *********
I sent a letter and £10 cheque on the Fri 9 March, 2007 requesting five years of bank statements as is my right under the Data Protection Act. I have been expecting copies of my statements within the 40 days stipulated under the Data Protection Act. As yet I have not received any correspondence from you.
By not supplying the information I requested, you have breached my rights under the Data Protection Act. You leave me with no alternative that if I do not receive copies of my bank statements within the next seven days, I will forward copies of my requests to the Information Commissioner.
I look forward to your timely response.

Hi, I am keen to recliam my bank charges, but I am with the Nationwide and I have been reading bad reports about the closing accounts. My worry is that I also have a personal loan with them. Can they turn round and tell me I have to pay back the full amount of this too, if they want me to go else where? Can someone please advise?
Also I used to have a credit card with them, which I no longer have but I know I was charged heaps. Can I go back and get bank recharges for this even though it's now closed?
Thanks! :rolleyes:0 -
hello all,
I am fairly new to this site.. I have gone through the process of trying to claim my bank charges back.
The 1st letter sent back to me informed me that they could not investigate my claim because i had closed my account (wrong THEY actually closed my account) they said that i had signed something (i didnt) when i closed my account, then the next day I received another letter ( the bog standard one they send out to everyone telling them sorry but no)..
So I threatened court and they still said no - but in the letter back this time, they offered me an overdraught!!!!!! So now i have put a claim in for the court, what can i expect to happen? do they defend claims now, if so what would i need to do? sorry I should mention this is Nationwide
Anyhelp appreciated

I'll pop your post into the Nationwide thread in a minute then you can read how other user's claims progress with the Nationwide.
If they do defend you'll find plenty of help here on to continue with your claim.0 -

I sent my 1st letter and £10 requesting details of my bank charges. That was 10 days ago. I have received a letter today from the Customer Experience Team (I think they need to re-think their title). Saying basically i cannot claim, but if i want help with my finances they wil be willing to help blah, blah, blah. As i still don't know what i'm entitled to claim as they haven't sent me the details of my charges from the last 6 years, what should i do next? Should i do nothing ad wait until the 40 days are up, or send another letter? I'm really not sure what to do. Any help would be gratefuly received.
I understand from all the threads Nationwide a propably one of the most awkward to claim from, so i would appreciate all the help i can get.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I am a first time contributer to this debate but have a similar story to most of you with nationwide, i too started the court procedure on 12th March and nationwide acknowlaged it on 15th March, 26 days later they filled a defence (right on the time scale) i am now awaiting for the court papers to arrive with the transfer details, will keep you informed of the "journey" ....
To the one or two puting posts on here worrying about the court thing and Nationwide putting up a defence i just think they are bluffing and are just trying to play for time and make it asa awkward as possible for us... my advice... dont give up... more to come later (hopefully with a happy ending)

Ok last week I told you that I had won all my bank charges and court costs. Well, sitting here I have decided to look into getting my money back on my nationwide credit cards. Has anyone tried this yet? If so,to what outcome????0
