Yes.. they tried to get me to pay over the odds by offering statements ... but just use the template letter to ask for all the charges rather than the statements

    Hi All,

Have some probably daft questions about this.

I want to reclaim what I think is going to be nearly £1,000 of charges from Nationwide. I have been reading this thread and Martin's board on the subject and I have got the draft letter asking for a list of all my charges from the last 6 years. The thing is I don't have a cheque book, neither does my OH. Could I send them a postal order instead? Or get someone else to do a cheque and give them the money? Who should the cheque / postal order be made payable to?

    Thanks,
    Flis

You can send a postal order and make it payable to the bank you are requesting the details from :)

I am going through a claim with Ltsb and didnt want to use my chequebook in case it bounced! and give them an excuse not to send statements!

So i sent a postal order made out to Ltsb.

But i think a cheque from someone else is ok too.

    Hope this helps

i have just foned nationwide to request sum statements as i cant see them all online.an thye have said to get the statements i need to pay £5 PER PAGE!!!!!bear in mind its one page per month!!! wat should i do??/thought they could only charge £10 for the lot??should i just send a letter to them askin for all the charges bk and not give an amount????please help.thanks

what you do is you write to the data protection manager of the bank and request under the data protection act 1984 for all of the penalty charges levied on your account for the past 6 years. if you do it this way then you only have to pay £10 whereas if you ask for statements then they are entitled to charge you more for it. there is a thread for this but i havent looked for it yet so ill edit when i do lol.

    For David from Luton,

hi , i got exactly the same letter from the nationwide as you did, saying the same thing. i opened up an account with halifax and have just sent my second letter threatening court action. Nationwide will undoubtedly, from what i have read, close my account, but i have the halifax to fall back on so im not really worried.

  • Hi,

I'm claiming against Barclays with MCO following a successful near £7k result from Nationwide.

Nationwide was quite straight forward but Barclays acknowledged at the last minute, and now haven't done anything. I issued the claim on 1st March. They acknowledged on the 14th day...I was away then so couldn't really keep a close eye on it.

As it's the 3rd April now I would have thought I could enter a judgement but it's still saying I can't...surely the allocated 28 days are up?

Sorry for creating a new post for this and I'm sure it will get merged into the Barclays thread, but I really wanted to make sure someone would see this and hopefully have an answer, as I really need to get this judgement entered as soon as I can.

    Thank you.
