Get the feeling they're trying to stall you??

Absolutely!! I fear that this will be the first of many stalls from the Nationwide.

    Hi,

My partner is claiming back her charges from Nationwide. From what I have read on here it seems that Nationwide are closing accounts.

She has an unsecured personal loan with Nationwide. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of whether (or how) this will be affected.

    Many thanks.

The Nationwide took 250 from my account last month in charges. I wrote and asked for it back explaining that my husband and I are going through a separation and it was a time of financial adjustment for me. They wrote back saying no. No surprise. However, they intend to take a further 150 out the end of this month. I have 2 accounts with the Nationwide. The charges apply to one account only. What I plan to do is transfer all my money and direct debits to the account with no charges. Therefore when they take the money at the end of the month I will in effect go overdrawn. Will they dip in to my other account for the money, are they allowed to? The two account are Flex Accounts.
I intend to claim my charges back but need to open another account somewhere else first. Can anyone recommend one I have a bad credit rating so need a basic account.
    Thanks

    Hi Pere,

I am in a similar situation to you with the Nationwide. I went to them in January, told them I would be having a tough few months for one reason or another and asked to a £500 overdraft for 2 months...they said no. As I expected, i've ended up with a load of bank charges I cannot afford to loose so I have...

    1. Sent them a letter claiming charges back.
    2. Set up a basic bank account with the Yorkshire Bank.
    3. Have transfered most of my DD's and SO's over to my new account.

Have a look at the Budgeting & Current Accounts board on the forum and there is a good basic current accounts thread over there that will help you.

    Good Luck!

  • Help required;
I wrote to Nationwide BS to claim £850 back in overdrawn charges in February, not replied to.Another letter on 7th March.I first received a letter on15th March infoming me that after over many years of an overdraft facility of £1250.a sudden reveiw has cut this to £850 with the acount now at £1100 they have given me until 2nd April to get this down or charges will apply.
On 16th March I received another letter from a different department saying they "are unable to refund charges as you've requested"
"These charges are in accordance with the terms and conditions, which you agreed to when you signed the application form to open your account"
Is this letter final or can I challenge it please.
    Many thanks

Get your claim in for the charges refund, and write to the bank telling them your account is in dspute and under the banking code they can not default you or take enforcement action.....addtionally they should understand any further charges applied to your account will again be reclaimed.
