Unlikely they will call in the overdraft at this stage but they would give you 28 days if they do.0 -
acguest wrote:Just a quick question - when you send the next letter (after they have ignored your 1st one) ..... do you re-calculate the interest owed? Or always leave the figure the same?
You re-calculate the interest when you start the MoneyClaim stage. The banks won't include any interest in an offer up until that stage.0 -
I just received the letter from Nationwide telling me they are closing my account in 30 days. Fortunatley the amount they have given me so far has covered my over draft, they have just entered a defence and I am waiting for the court papers to come through. They are closing all three of my accounts which is no problem because I have just moved all my banking to Halifax.

will they close other accounts you have with them then even if you are not claiming bank charges on the other accounts. i have my sons child trust fund and a credit card and a savings account.0

I do not think so, We have a child trust fund with them and they are not closing that or my wife's accounts. It may be they are only closing the ones in my name, which are a sole flexaccount, joint flexaccount and my websaver account. hope this helps.

rapido wrote:I calculated all my charges plus 8% interest, but should I claim back via Moneyclaim all this PLUS the overdraft interest they charged me?
Therefore the charges plus their overdraft interest, all plus 8%?
If so, I think this needs to be clarified as in my 1st and 2nd letters, I didn't include the overdraft interest (as Martin's guide didn't include anything about this).

You can't claim back the normal interest for going overdrawn. The 8% can be claimed at the point of MoneyClaim by inputting the charges individually into the Interest Calculator and it will give you the correct figure.0 -
I've just read today (in the Independant) that the Nationwide are sending out letters this weekend to all people claiming saying they're suspending all action untill the OFT rules on the bank charges (unlawful or not?) situation. This could be some time next month.
Has anyone any more info on this? I just sent in my claim for £2500 on Friday0 -
I have sent off the second letter to Nationwide informing them of the charges we are reclaiming on my son's accounts. We have also opened a parachute account with Alliance & Leicester...just in case. One of Chris's accounts, that he no longer uses, was £224 overdrawn, due to charges alone. Nationwide had started to get a bit shirty about this account and the other day sent a letter threatening legal action if this amount wasn't settled. We have now done this and the account has been closed. The thing is, and the more I think about this the madder I get, they have told him that with effect from 5th March they are taking away his overdraft facility on his other account. He uses this overdraft facility all the time; it has a limit of £530, and if they take it away he will immediately be £200 overdrawn. That, of course, means more charges! Needless to say we will be claining those back as well, as and when. But do the banks really need to punish people like this....where does it get anyone, I really wish we were not all so dependent on these institutions.
Good luck to everyone who is claiming back their charges....power to the people! They call me Mr Pig!0
