  • Have just read the other posts and been further encouraged to reclaim my bank charges.

I have had two accounts with Nwide for over ten years and saw a story on my local news re a customer getting money back from Nwide. She was successful so i decided to do it.

Firstly, I have opened another bank account with a new bank and am about to tranfer all my direct debits and standing orders, as I am sure they will close my account in the near future.

Secondly, I sent the 14 day letter and received a reply after approx a week. I noticed that another contributor received a similar letter i.e I have agreed to terms and conditions etc etc nothing they will do, thanking me for my effort etc etc, basically fobbing me off and saying bank elsewhere if your not happy.

Thirdly, now once my new account is sorted out I will be completing the money claim forms and taking it from there.

I have read on another post that most banks cave in when they are taken to the next court stage?

    Hope this is true.
  • Has anyone been offered their bank charges back when sending the without prejudice letter and accepting a lower amount, I am really not sure what letter to send and my bank is Nationwide and they seem to be the worse one !

    any help appreciated,

    thanks

This is the recent statement from the chairman-to-be of Nationwide. In it he talks about current accounts becoming fee paying in the future. From our point of view he also states that, currently, delinquent accounts bear a higher proportion of the costs overall through fee charging etc. So anyone claiming back fees from Nationwide might want to refer them to this tacit admission from their own chairman-elect!
  • mine took 11 days did you send the letter sign for as i sent my first letter in normal post and nationwide said they never recieved so i now make sure any communication i have with nationwide is sent sign for

RECIEVED FULL PAYMENT BACK FROM NATIONWIDE A DAY BEFORE I WAS DUE TO ISSUE A JUDGEMENT
  • Just checked my account, £4600 claimed and they have just credited my account with £3424 which is almost the amount but without interest. Do I tell money claim they have part paid or just end the claim without interest? I will be issuing another claim on that account tonight for a further £1500 plus interest.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Finally got Statements :)

They owe me £365 .... seems pitiful compared to what other have ... hopefully they will just pay it :) *fingers crossed*

Actually (edited to include interest) its £405.04 :)
  • Nationwide have paid out some money but the amount paid was less than the amount I calculated I am owed....

Do I pursue court proceedings and try and get the rest???

they gave me £2966, when I believe my fees are in excess of £5000. My claim amount was £5000.

Do I stand to lose anything by taking this further still???

This has just happened to me too. They sent me a letter saying my calculations were wrong and attached a schedule of charges. None of the dates add up, and neither do the amounts - what a joke. They refunded half of what I am owed.

    What shall we do?

p.s. are there any experts on this board because it seems that this thread is just full of questions, no answers.
  • No, there are no experts on this board, just some volunteers who are doing their very best. We do try to read through each thread every day but some days are busier than others :)

If you wish to carry on with your claim you need to reply to say you will accept the offer in part payment and be persuing for the rest in the courts.

As they have said your calculations are wrong you need to check this out as they will use this in their defence.
