hi my son managed to get himself overdrawn, due to a direct debit being set up for wrong bank account, and details sent, the dd tried to take money from an account with very little money in it, he tried to explain but they charged him for two months before he realised, I went down and paid the balance shown on the statement, he then got charged again as my payment was after next charge was due, he went down and asked the girl on the counter how much to pay in to clear the over draft, she told him and amount slightly over the figure shown on his statement, which he paid, but the same thing has happened again, as again the charge was being created at the same time as he paid, the bank is showing no flexabitialy or notion of good will, what can he do0

I have applied to my bank for a refund on charges using Martins letter. My Bank has refused as I have more income than outgoings. Is this fair? My bank charges are huge.
that's just an excuse.. just send the next letter!
people are getting their charges back regardless of income/outgoings etc!
I got to the court stage (got half back in the meantime) and the court didn't send me the date and the bank didn't turn up so I would have 'won' but I had to get it re-instated and now it's on hold!
keep meaning to call them up and say something but I hate ringing call centres!! (I actually worked in one for a few months and know what's it like!)

try going into the bank - sometimes talking to someone face to face helps!
I did once as I got charges 3 times and yet I had the money in the account so it should have gone through... the supervisor manager gave me a refund straight away!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
Hi wiggynut, he has phoned bank central and told we have rules and sorry but you have to pay, I phoned and spoke to branch manager, and she said all refunds of charges could no longer be dealt with by branches even gestures of good will, all cases now had to be dealt by central, I can't believe it I have also dealt with Nationwide for 20 years and never had a problem, so now printing off letters to start action, just amazed at total inflexabilty of a so called peoples bank. What is so anoying is that both he and I have paid amounts he even asked when he went in amount to clear and put him in credit, he also asked to close account and they said they could not do that on same day, if you were taking a debit account into credit, but did not explain why, or warn of subsequent charges.0

well, try the martin lewis way - but also you could write a letter of complaint (make sure it says COMPLAINT) - and they have to respond within 30 (or 40) days - they usually make an excuse first so write another complaint again - I use to work in a complaints dept as well and they ignore the nice single letters and only respond in your favour if you write another complaint (they get fined if they have so many and not dealt with in a suitable time frame)
your complaint is that you son was told how much to pay to cover his account so he wouldn't get charged again but was told the wrong amount!
(was this by phone? because if you write the time, date and the telephone number you called by they can then listern to the calls (they are all recorded - and the complaints dept have to listern to those - the customer agents can never be bothered - I did though!) so they wont be able to argue then!
worth trying both as I think they are dealt with different departments!
you wont lose anything except the postage (send via recorded delivery - they can't denie they havn't recieved it!)

thanks wiggynut, will try the letter to customer relations first, he actually went into the branch and paid over the counter, as he says if he had been made aware that aditional costs would be charged or may have been charged he would have put extra money in, as it was he put about an extra fiver in, so he knew (or so he thought ) that he was in the black!!0

they did that to me once and I actually asked at the counter how much to pay to bring me back into the black!
then got charged for being over again!!!!!!!!!!!! what's the point of being told the wrong amount!!!! I think some people are just a bit clueless but it means that you have pay charges!!! :mad:Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
They can close your account, but most banks will let you open a cash only account regardless of circumstances.0

Hello,
can i claim back the £20 un-authorized overdraft charges on my nationwide account, and how do i go about doing it??

Hi, I need some advice.
i searched my credit file and found a default from Nationwide. I closed this account in aug 05.... or so i thought.
I immeditely contacted them as soon as a knew of this (apr08) and settled the debt, paying a partial settlement, as they stated this was down to the mismanagement of the account. Which i had no information to hand to verify as i moved house, i took there word for it - silly me! and paid up £160.
I then put a sar throughas my local branch could not help, and all the charges relate to the account after I closed it, the charges were debited, the unauthorised od fee kicked in and three DD relating to the account, snowballed into 550 pounds, and i had defaults galore registered against me.
I beleived that through niaveity paying them the money would show goodwill whilst the SAR went through. The conduct of the account was immaculate with no charges made against the account whilst it was open. I have asked them for the money i paid them back and the default notices cancelled. The only thing that I dont have is a copy of the closure form filled in when i went to the bank. and they dont neither.
I have resided myself to a word against word scenario now. is there anything i can do now without filling in the court forms?:mad:0
