I have had an account with Nationwide for many years. I have a Flex Account where they offered me an increase in my overfraft from £3,000 to £6,450 earlier this year.

Yesterday my account was overdrawn by about £2,300. I went to pay for lunch and my payment of £20 was refused. I called Nationwide and was advised that they had written to me on 15th July stating that my overdraft limit was reduced from £6,450 down to £1,000 with effect from 13th August 2008. I said I have not recieved any letter of this. They said they wrote to me on 15th July 2008. I said if I had recieved such a letter I would have contacted bank and would have dealt with situation. I asked why you have done this and its because of the money in and out of my account.

I asked what was my balance a year ago and the answer was £2,400. I asked have I ever gone over my agreed o/d limit and the answer was no. I asked have I ever done anything wrong on my account and they said no.

I got passed over to collections and all they wanted was £1,300 from me get my o/d back to correct figure. Now it seems that they could charge me penalty fees on my account for today. They made a deal with me to reduce my o/d to £4,500 and that it will be reduced by £100 per month every month until its zero and then they will not offer me another overdraft.

They said that this arrangement will me marked as a loan on my credit report and when the o/d is paid off it will be marked as satisfied.

I am not very happy about this. Any advice on what I should do?

you can ask for a cheque. I was in the same position with a RBS CC and just requested that the money was sent straight to me via cheque as the account was no longer in use.

Well done for getting your money back :T

    hi

does the card have a balance on it or have you cleared it? if you still owe them then they will be entitled to pay that off the card but any extra should be paid to you by cheque.

  • Hello all :)

Just need some advice really......thanks to this site I have started to reclaim my charges from Nationwide.

After sending the initial letter, they responded with a repayment of £150 in charges straight into my account. :j ........however the same letter goes on to mention the status of the court case with the OFT. It finishes with their advice of 'should I go further Nationwide will apply to the court to stay my action'.

I have two months to respond to this letter. What should I do?

    Thanks
  • Accept the £150 in part payment and tell them that you will continue with your claim once the court case is finished.
  • I've skimmed thru and searched on this thread for an answer but to no avail - so apologies if I have missed the answer;

I got my NWide Flex AC statement and was shocked to see an unauthorised OD fee of £20 (dated 30th Sept) - on checking that date, I was 46p over my limit - so I phoned up to complain!!!

I was told (after being put on hold for 7 mins for advisor to speak to a supervisor) that the date was just the "end of the month date" and that the charge referred to 12th Sept (when last months charges were added to my account taking me £40ish over my limit) - now I know for a fact that LTSB do not charge charges on charges - but it seems Nwide do - is this common practice - is there anything I can do - they told me they gave me 28 days notice to make sure I had the funds to pay their charges!!! - after another fruitless 15 mins on the phone, the advisor has told me that a "manager" would phone me back tonight - can anyone help as to where I stand - are they within their "rights" to charge me on an unauthorized OD caused by previous charges???

    Thanks

PS: I have written to NWide in the past and received no joy in reclaiming any charges in the past (even before the current court case!!)!
  • Hope you can help. Just been to the nationwide to collect my eagerly awaitied response to the letter and sending the cheque for £10.00

On reciept of the letter it included 2 pages of chat about 'holding out' for later then the last page showed a balance sheet of £0!!

I was livid, they should surely reply with the charges sheet showing 6 years if nothing else? They said they need to resolve the FSA and OFT legal situation before resolving our claim, hence a '!!!! take' of a response showin on one sheet of A4 our band number, name and £0 !!

What should I do please. I really need some advice,as I expected to have details and even have the payout put off until this legal issue is resolved. Does anyone have evidence of a payout even in this my circumstance? Please help.

By the way some 2 years back I tried this road and my wife stopped me pursuing this as we were worried they (NW) would close our account and as we (with our first kid) were overdrawn we didnt have another account to hide in (parachute account).

Please help as we're still very overdrawn and still need this money to pay off the overdraft etc.

    Anyone in our boat...and won?

    Direction please most appreciated!!

    Thanks, in advance,

  • I have just recieved a letter from nationwide stating that they will be taking further action over my joint account which is £445 over the limit.I do not have an overdraft or any agreement to go overdrawn, this is all charges that they have been adding on each month. Each month they have added on overlimit charges, but it is over the limit in the first place because of their charges.I sent 2 letters earlier in the year claiming back the charges that have accrued of the last few years, and was claiming hardship as we are on very limited income at the moment. They replied saying that they could see I had more outgoing than incoming in June '08 and refunded £90 of the original request for £1,540.I couldn't understand how the came to that decision in the first place as there has been more outgoing than incoming for a while now. Anyway does anyone know what i should now?? I would be grateful for any advice, as I am trying my hardest to get straight at the moment as am in a bit of a mess with bills, and not sure what to do next.
