Not sure whether they would close your account but you may be able to get a basic bank account with the Co-Operative Bank. I also have bad credit and could not find anyone who would give me a bank account.
Tried Co-Op and they accepted. Have a basic account with a Visa Electron debit card. No overdrafts are allowed on this account but they are lovely to deal with on phone.
Might be worth a try.0 -
I claimed charges from Nationwide last year and they didn't close my account, although i only had a basic card account with them. Like you i have a really bad credit rating, but i still managed to get a halifax basic account that comes with a debit card, you can apply on line as well. So you might want to try there.Started slimming world 4th November 2010

It is unfair for the banks to close accounts purely because you are attempting to complain, should they threaten this then you must report (call) them to the OFT and the FOS, they can make an immediate stay until they have completed their investigations.MAC

we first wrote to them about 18 months ago and they wrote back saying they were going to look into it, then they wrote to say they were going to court with outher banks and we would hear after the court hearings, then we had another letter about 6 months ago saying we havent been forgotten about but court hearings are still going on.
Has anyone else had this with nationwide? Should i write again or wait some more?0 -
My father has had a letter saying his claim is being suspended until after the court hearing so I think the majority of people are playing the waiting game.0

Same as you I'm afraid, although I'm with Abbey. I had a very similar letter as you, trouble is I'm still accruing bank charges every month, so if this ever gets paid back I'll have to re-apply for another lot. Good fun eh ............0

Hi All,
Whilst I was away my new savings account wrote to me saying they would be taking a £30k deposit (this is not mine - it's all stoozed cash!) via DD on a specific date. In hindsight I should have made an outbound payment to them not the other way around...............
As I was away I didn't get the funds into my Nationwide BS account and they have
charged me £30 for a bounced DD fee.
Having never ever ever incurred a bank charge this has really annoyed me. I called Nationwide BS (spoke to a manager etc etc) and explained the situation. Despite being a very loyal customer for 10+ years they will not budge. I asked what the £30 consisted of and he just said it was a charge levied that would be an incentive not to do it again - Charming! :T
On the basis that this £30 is the first and only charge that I have ever incurred I cannot find an approproate template letter.
Does anyone have any views in what I should do or should I just accept that it's "just" £30, I have made a mistake and I need to live with it and learn.
Thanks in advance, all views are very welcome.
Cheers,

Hi,
That's awful!, i have never banked with them but i am sure all banks have some form of goodwill gesture, if this is the first time ever and it was an oversight i cannot see how they can justify the charge, get back on to them and if all else fails threaten to move your account and all your savings to another bank, in the current climate, i would think banks would like to hold on to customers like yourself who have been loyal for many years. If the figure you were saving with them is 30K and they could lose that for the sake of £30, there should be no argument, hope you get it back.:rotfl:"its always in the last place you look!" of course it is, once you have found it you dont keep looking! ha ha0 -
Hiya,
Thanks for responding..........At the end of the call (which lasted about 40 minutes!) I did threaten to close my account - He said I would need to visit my local branch to do that and gave me very matter of fact instructions on what I should do to close each (I have several - FlexAccount, InvestDirect, e-savings etc.)
I would love to do it just out of principle, it's just the hassle factor!
