I used the Nationwide online banking facilities to transfer some money over to my other account. Being foolish I sent the money twice.
    immediate transfer: 5th Jan - £100
    pre-dated bill payment: 10th Jan - £100
Not sure how I ended up doing this but because I had insufficient funds to be able to carry out the second transfer on the 10th, Nationwide have charged me £30.

I phoned up and they won't help me out because its not a Nationwide fault.

Do I just suck it up and pay before I get more charges applied for being overdrawn?

  • hi im new here and just have a quick question, i have read of people receiving goodwill gestures from nationwide regarding their bank charges. anyway my question is this, can you accept the goodwill gesture and still claim for the whole ammount? surely a goodwill gesture is just a gift and therefore is not related to charges they have placed on your account?

another thing, for example it bt presented a direct debit boefore it was due and i received a £30 charge due to insufficient funds, i can send them my bank statement showing this ammount and they will credit it to my phone bill, can i then also still claim this back from nationwide? hence getting £60 back for a £30 charge? is this possible?

    thanks in advance
  • anyone.....?

    hi

goodwill gestures if accepted should be responded too saying they are accepted as partial payment only and you will be pursueing the remaining amount.

improper collection of direct debits is subject to the direct debit guarentee. the bank should reverse the transaction and any associated charges. youll still have to pay the payee as previously agreed

if the bank dont sort this to your satisfaction take your complaint to the FO making it clear its a complaint on the direct debit guarentee not bank charges.

    good luck

  • hi i have just received my statements in this mornings post from nationwide.

to get them i just simply rang up and asked, they placed a £10 charge on my account for this. i rang up monday 3/3/2008 and received them today, so only took them 5 days. seems alot quicker than waiting for the letter.

just thought i'd let ya know.

    cool

    cheers

  • I'm new to this but need to get my finances on track!! So, I have followed the first letter to reclaim my £1500 bank charges...& Nationwide have sent a standard/ curt reply saying...not much but that they adivise I wait fro the trial result, not to persist in cLaiming further; or risk having my account shut down. They say they are 100% fair with thier charges!! Anyone beaten Nationwide, or have any suggestions!!

  • Yes I ahve it in wriing!!' Similarly, you should be aware that if you choose to issue a claim in the CC we will apply to the Court for an order to stay your action until resolution of the banks proceedings with the OFT'

Please can anyone advise me of the best way to tackle my problem, I cant see any similar situations when I searched, but I as I am really angry I might have missed something in my haste.

1st April 2005 my solicitor repaid the full amount of my debt to Red Knight who were acting on behalf of the Nationwide Credit Card.

Now last week out of the blue I received a letter from Cabot asking for the full amount of my debt with Nationwide. Knowing what Cabot are like, I didn't reply to them but wrote to Nationwide asking what they were doing discussing my details with a dca when debt had been settled etc.

Two days later got a letter from NW stating that my debt had been passed to Cabot.

Today got 2 letters from NW first one saying they would investigate and second one saying that no payments have been received since Feb 05 and that they had a letter on file from late March 07 saying that I thought that debt had been cleared by PPI. They also reiterate that I must deal with Cabot from now on as I still owe this money.

I haven't been in any correspondence with them since 05 so this is not my letter that they have on file, but I do have a copy of my sols letter enclosing the cheque for the full amount of the debt dated 1st April 05. Surely there would have been some correspondence if they truely believed I owed this money sometime over the last 3 years?

Now I know I am ok as I have this letter but this is scary stuff. I am going to write back (as think it would be best to write rather than any phone conversations) and ask for a copy of this so called letter of 'late' March 07. I plan on telling them that I have proof that this debt was setted, but thought I shouldn't make it easy for them by just providing a copy at this stage.

What would be the best way of dealing with this. I obviously am furious at NW, surely this is Fraudulent and against OFT guidelines? I want to go back hard as I can at NW for this.

    Any suggestions?
