anymore news on the court cases?
The court for my claim didn't notify me of the court date and as nationwide didn't turn up and obviously I didn't either - it got thrown out.
I reapplied and now it's a stay!! I would have 'won' otherwise... dammit!
just wondered if anyone has received any updates or letters as yet. I've heard nothing.
anyone think it's worth ringing nationwide.
I also got another £30 charge recently despite not using the account as I opened up a new account at HSBC - I thought the FSA said all the banks had to reduce their charges!?Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
Hi, Everybody this is my first attempt at this, and Iam looking for the next step.
Iam with Nationwide BS and have been through the letter stages up to getting the Financial Ombudsman Service FOS and Nationwide then say that they are awaiting direction from the FOS as to who gets and what is to be given.
We have been waiting now for over six months and do not know what to do next. Any help or guidance would be appreciated thanks.0 -
Since successfully reclaiming my bank charges from Alliance & Leicester, I have been banking with Nationwide= due to the A & L account being closed!
I have recently been charged two fees of £30 within the space of one week for two amounts of £5.99 being taken out of my account when there were insufficient funds (end of Jan - just when you're recovering from Christmas!)
So, the total of £60 was deducted from my account, and I admit I was warned about this in my bank statement. However, I did not have ONE letter, let alone TWO letters to say that I had been charged this as my account had gone overdrawn.
I therefore emailed Nationwide to ask them how they could charge me £30 for doing nothing and their response is...
"We are unable to provide the information you have requested regarding a breakdown of charge costs. This is due to the commercial sensitivity of such information.
Nationwide makes every effort to ensure that our charges compare favourably with those of other leading financial organisations. "
Any ideas as to what I can say in response??? This is the second email I have received, the first just gave me the jargon that their fees were in line with their terms and conditions... but I thought with the majority of banks, amounts under £10 that were returned due to insufficient funds were waived?
Advice from someone who knows their stuff would be greatly appreciated!!0 -
Did you not learn your lesson from A&L? :undecided"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
The direct debit was for phone insurance, which I initially had free for the first three months and totally forgot to cancel it. I have since cancelled it... but as I have said above, I didnt get a letter from the bank... I only got my bank statement at the end of the month, after which the amounts had been taken from my account twice... being the xmas period, I didnt look at my account as I was too busy enjoying myself!0

Hi,
The answer to my question is probably in one of the threads but it all looks so confusing.
Apart from the £000's they have taken off me in charges, I am now being charged on charges they originally charged me for.
Situation:
I set up a new account and have been using that for over a year. I finally got my overdraft down to £0 on my Nationwide account but I slipped up back in October and they charged me £20. I thought I was down to £0 and all good. They then whacked another £20 fee on top as their charge sent me overdrawn. I paid another £20, but i was too late, so they charged me again.
I have been charged £80 now for one mistake back in October 07.
They keep replying to my e-mails and letters with news that they are not reviewing any case until after the court case with the FSA (What is happening with that BTW?).
Any help and advice would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks

A few months ago DH and I read about the increasing numbers of people reclaiming charges from their banks and building societies and considered doing so from the Nationwide though we admit if we had managed our account better they would not have arisen.
However there were reports from some people on this board that Nationwide were closing the accounts of those customers who initiated such claims. Can anyone tell me if this is still the case because we have no other complaints about our Flexaccount and it has been very handy when we have been abroad and we would not like to risk having to transfer everything to our Halifax current account. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I've been thinking about claiming my bank charges but I'm worried about getting my a/c closed, I'm with Nationwide. I've not got the best credit history and can't afford not having a bank account.
What's the worst that can happen?0 -
If you read the guide throroughly it says to open a new 'parachute' account. I've done this (moved to NatWest from Lloyds) and it was pretty hassle-free.
Hope this helps!
(I have a pants credit history!)0
