    Hi

I've just got a bank statement from the Nationwide with a charge of £30.00 - I thought they had been lowered!??)

I havn't used this account for 7 months and cancelled all Direct Debits so I rang customer services who refused to ask my questions because I couldn't remember the exact date of the last time I used the account - yet I'd answer all the Data Protection questions already!!!

I rang AGAIN twice more (phone cut off twice!!) who finally told me that she would cancle the DD - yet I told her that no directed debit has been on my account for 7 months (I have double checked this a month ago and nothing was listed!). She said she would put me through to another department and then cut me off!!!

It was left open as I'm waiting for the refund of bank charges claimed (£150 inc court costs).

anyone got any suggestions on what to say or do besides the rather pointless complaint letter (I did work in a call centre for complaints so I know it's will be a cut & paste letter back saying nothing of use).

I really don't see why I have to pay £30 for nothing!!!!!!!!! can I add this to my court claim - the court forgot to send me the date of the hearing and no one turned up - I think the bank was told but didn't attend so I should have won!!! but I complained to the court and now it's been stayed!!

    any suggestions??? :o

  • After saying I am going to do something about the charges I have recieved I have used this weekends calm before the storm of christmas to get things done.

I have just been through the charges on our joint account (The wife has kept statements going back 6 years) and like others am absolutely amazed at how much I have paid. The charges total over £6000 with interest its approaching nearly £8000.

The parachute account has already been opened and the first letter is signed and ready to go in the post along with the charges schedule.

One question at this point, I have addreesed it to the branch! Is the correct or should I send it to the head office?
  • my aprents have a basic account with 200 overdraft, but in december they had money problems and missed 3 dd's so got £90 charge, january money was tight and nationwide took the £90 charges which didnt leave enough for that months dd's, then this month they got £120 charges due out again..... nationwide r taking the pee a bit.... so far its £300 in charges since november .... my parents r arguing and blaming each other .... my mum is ready to send off a letter from this site ... what advice can anyone give ?

my mum has opened another account with halifax and moving away from nationwide, this first time they ever had charges, been with nationwide 25 years  but since there merger with portman, they got worse

With reference to the direct debits being taken out although still active, I have just had the same. The girl at my branch actually admitted that sometimes direct debits start up again they don't know why but sometimes it happens. I cancelled mine in December, the branch manager actually stopped them, but BT presented the Direct debit for the end of January and it bounced (cos i've taken all my money out of nationwide after receiving nearly £200.00 a month charges again!) and they tried it again and again. I've put in complaints with Nationwide and BT. I'm now waiting for the complaints team to contact me, I've given them 7 days or I'll be reporting them to Financial Ombudsmen. This always seem to shimmy them along a bit quicker. I would suggest getting on the phone, and making them listen. Talk to your local branch, state you want to complain and keep going, but don't shout at the poor person in the branch it's not their fault, they just work for the fat cats!
    good luck.
I got £500.00 back last year reclaiming my charges. and i've been with nationwide over 20 years they don't care about customer loyalty.

  • Hi All, New to the Boards pleased to meet you all. I would like to know if anyone has had any luck with claiming Bank charges back from Nationwide Building Society?I have had the inital letter stating what charges I have paid £3,300.00,But stating they have to wait to see how the test cases have gone. Do I now send in the letter asking for my money now or do I have to wait? Or are they delaying? Sorry about the Novel. Freewheeler  ..

I'm new to this bank charge reclaiming thing so I don't know too much about it.

I've just been charged £30 for a returned cheque fee. It was my fault and I was expecting a £10 fee but this is stupid. I'm not going to go to court and get my account closed over £30, have I got any chance of getting this back any other way?

Maybe wait until after this OFT court thing or if I call them are they likely to refund me as a one off?

Also, I thought the OFT said they would investigate anything over £12 forcing the banks to lower their charges to this level?
  • hi guys , i sent a letter to n/wide ages ago, basically got a letter back saying there wernt going to pay and charges back but i owed them £300 due to charges but they owed me £1250 , then i got a debt collection agency contanting me for the £300 i owed them said i wasnt paying it cos they owe me more and they told me if i didnt pay it , it was going to a solictor , so in feb i started court proceedings for my money now it was acknowleged on the 5th of feb , it says they have 28 days to file a defence , but they havent yet and the 28 days is up, so if 2 morrow i go on mcol and file for judgement what happens then as i thought it would have been stayed , but it hasnt any info would be good from u guys cheers jill
