I've just rang the court and they say I should get a letter with a date on it by the end of this week or early next week.
I tried ringing Nationwide and was told to call the switchboard on 01793576766 - no answer for over 10 minutes... tried the number on top of the letter 3 times 01793712433 and it just kept ringing... Don't think they want to talk to me

going to send a letter adding a 'self-litigation fee' of £230.00 and let them know if there are any further court costs they will be added to my claim!

wanted to talk to them first before sending it but I've tried ringing several times now so it will have to be the letter instead!
    Good luck everyone.

My proceedings with Nationwide so far:

    16/03/07 1st letter

    26/05/07 Defence
20/06/07 refunded half only - partial acceptance of £200.00

    Hello guys,

I sent off my "court threat" letter on the 25th June, and I have still heard no reply from Nationwide. I have just had a further £50 in charges added, after opening my statement this morning. Should I give them more time or do I send them another letter? Can I add this £50 on too?

    Hi,

    I read here:

that nationwide closes ALL your accounts with them once they refund the charges. Is this true?

I thought they only closed the refunded account.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

after losing my job a few months ago, my first giro payment was payed into nationwide. Within 3 days i recieved a letter saying that my £200 (by then almost 10year old) overdraft was being withdrawn...this was of course a huge coincidence when i rang them.

I Started Work After A Short Period Of Unemployment 2 1/2 Months Ago And As I Needed To Get My Pay Into A Bank Account I Contacted Nationwide To Find Out If I Could Have The Charges of £200 Which Made Up 100% Of My now unauthorised Overdraft Removed.

They Said That They Wouldnt Be Prepaired To Do This As They Believed The Charges To Be Fair (they Even Sent Me A Patronising Photocopy Of A Leaflet Explaining How I Could Manage My Money Better!)

They Then Suggested I Could Pay The O/d Back Throug Ha Seperate Agreement At £10 Month, The Telephone Monkey Seemed To Suggest That This Would Be Classed As An Overdraft (in Fact He Never Mentioned The Word "Loan" Or I Would Have Been More Suspicious)

since then i have started action (about 2 send 2nd letter) to reclaim charges.

I Have Now Got A Default Notice, Which Isnt Too Scary As They Are Mainly Talking About Taking Away My Cheque Book/cards/overdraft Ect Which I Dont Use.

However I Am Worried That My Credit Score Will Be Affected And That As It Seems To Be Classed As A Loan I Wont Be Able To Reclaim The Charges.

    Any Help Really Appriciated

They write to you they ask that you follow T&C and if you don't then they can notify you to close the account in 30 days and go elsewhere! It's a standard response... I think they closed peoples account at first but not so much now.
I've personally started another bank account elsewhere just in case! I'm not fussed myself - I think that claiming your fees back may affect their judgement of you if anything happens in the future and the new bank account wont have that info!
Better safe than never - just have another account ready in case - as I say they have to give you 30 days - they can't just shut it down over reclaiming charges.

  • Hiya,

My first post this but its abit of a success story with Nationwide. My girlfriends just been sorting her car out so that shes paying Mazda less for it but, as happens with these things, they tried to draw both the new amount and then old one and the account didn't have the funds to cope. Nationwide got in touch saying that she'd be charged for the second failed attempt to collect the money a month from when it occurred. That would have jeopardized another payment to Mazda and we didn't really have time to start writing letters to stop it happening. I urged her to challenge the charge as it wasn't a huge amount but wasn't right to have go through it nonetheless. Nationwide's call centre was massively unhelpful at this point saying that she'd have to talk to the branch she opened the account at and that it was their decision about the charges.

    So..... we went into the branch and asked for the manager and got fobbed off to customer services body who told us as it wasn't Nationwide's mistake they would not, under any circumstance refund the charge and that we should contact the call centre, not the branch. It was at this point I saw red and proceeded to do the following without really thinking;

Table thumping in the middle of the branch to reinforce each syllable while stating strongly and with some volume that the charges were unlawful and that all of us sat there knew that........and.........that I also had no time for games and the rubbish they must be briefed to throw out in the attempt to put us off and that if we had to deal with the call centre to ring them now and I'd speak to them - they wouldn't call them.

A quick 5 mins after running off to talk to the manager my dear customer service friend came back and lo and behold, they could stop the charges!

They did say that it was really the head office and/or call centre we needed and asked that we sign a letter to say we wouldn't return to the branch with any future problems over charges should any occur. I flatly refused and asked that we have a call back once the charges were confirmed with the head office as stopped. That call came within an hour :D

Happy days eh?! Oh and shes closing the account anyway after the useless service and attitude recieved.

    Hi all

Starting to get a little nervous now. Nationwide acknowledged my claim on 03/07/07. Believe the 28 days is up at the end of the month. Is anybody else in the same position?
Tried calling my branch last friday to see if they would settle before it got to court stage - they claimed to have no knowledge that I had made a claim through the courts. Spoke to someone somewhere in Swindon (was transferred), who also claimed to have no knowledge of my claim. Panicked, so phoned Eversheds and was told that they had my claim but were waiting to hear back from Nationwide, and gave me the telephone number of the department dealing with it. Phoned them, they confirmed that the claim was on their files to look at, but wouldn't be looked at until the end of the month, and would hear from Eversheds or Nationwide at the end of the month when decision had been made (ie pay up or defend). Starting to get nervous at the prospect of having to attend court
    Amount being claimed from Nationwide - £2794.50 + £524.09 in interest = £3318.59 + court fees = £3438.59
    lodged with Moneyclaim online 29/06/2007

Amount to be claimed from HSBC - £730.00 (charges only). Email sent to customer relations 01/07/2007 & letter sent by recorded delivery 02/07/2007 (to be on the safe side!!!!!!)
