I calculate that my Money Claim online deadline for Barclays is tomorrow the 10th. As banking dudes with have all toddled off home by now (7pm Friday) it looks like it will be undefended
  • Hello everyone, I have been following this thread for a while and yesterday have sent the first letters to Barclays (am claiming for my personal account and an account which I held with my ex-husband).

Sent both letters, giving them 40 days to respond with a list of charges, PLUS £10 cheque in each. Sent it recorded delivery to the address stated on the bank statements (Leicester).

Hopefully they won't close my account, pretty doubtful since I and my partner have a mortgage, ISA and household insurance with them. I also have a (almost paid off) graduate loan. I have also been a customer for 28 years but I suppose this will count for nothing.

Will let you know what happens! :T
    Claimed back in 2007
    Barclays Bank £2245
    Barclaycard £ 504
    Capital One £ 100

    NOW SAVING LOTS OF MONEY!

I am helping my mum claim £1300 from Barclays. Their 7 days was up yesterday but my mum received a letter in the week stating they are looking into & will get back to her no later than 16th March.

This seems to be getting quite common now. As its only next friday, would anyone wait or go ahead with court claim? I know the general advice is stick to your own timescales, but i am worried they will defend.

Also, is it true that banks are stalling for some confirmation from OFT about this situation or new law to make it harder to claim?? Anyone know??

    Thanks in advance
  • I have sent both my letters to my local branch of BARCLAYS and ignored on both occasions. I contacted my local branch on 7th March 2007 who told me that all correspondance that is delivered to the local is branch is automatically forwarded onto the head branch down the country without being opened! I was told that there is a note on my file saying that my request is is due for "review" on the 8th March. To be honest, Im now sick of writing letters and phoning, is it now time to start with the court process via this website? Oh, ive heard nothing else from BARCLAYS since my telephyone call to them, obviously a stalling tacktic.

    Regards

    Hey guys,

Sent a statment request on 27 Feb 07 and got a reply returning my £10 cheque on 2 March about not being able to comply with DPA request but will send statements complimentary. So hopefully they will.

Anyway, back in 2005 I got a CCJ because of this whole bank charges thing. Can anyone please tell me if I - sorry when I am successful with my claim. Can I get that CCJ removed from my credit rating or does it not make a difference because it has already been actioned by the courts. (CCJ has since been satisfied but has not been marked satisfied off of my credit report and am wondering whether it is worth me sending off for a certificate of satisfaction at a cost of £15)

    Please help Thanks:eek:

Virgin Media Customer - Rang to complain 09/03/07 and got half price TV for 6months of which I can renew for another 6 months when complete. Also changed my subscription for a better service for same price.:j
  • Hi sorry if a similar thread has been posted regarding this but i'm new to all this! My girlfriend added up her charges and it came to £1050. She sent a letter off to Barclays and they sent a letter back saying they were offering £540 as a goodwill gesture.
We were just wondering whether she should accept this offer or push on and try to claim back the whole amount. Ideally we'd like the whole amount but we don't want to end up with nothing nor do we want Barclays to close her account.
Any advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks Mark
  • So they are offering approx half of what you have requested.

You could write to them (Never agree to anything over the phone) stating that you will only accept the offer 'as a partial settlement' of your full claim and that you intend to claim the balance. In which case they may well withdraw the offer and you will have to go down the court claim route (don't be too worried about this it's usual) OR you could accept the amount offered.

Only you can make that decision.

Have you opend a 'parachute account' with another bank? this is in case they get all stroppy and close your account (which they shouldn't do - see the sticky thread above).

Think about it, personally I want every single penny of my money back but it is a personal decision.

Good luck whatever you choose to do.
