Edit2: What do I put in the template letter where it says Name of Court? The above paragraph says county court so do I put [my county] County Court, [My town] Magistrates Court, or Wimbledon Tennis Court?
You can find your local county court with this link..http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/ or if your like me and you can't find it..phone the nearest court to you (mine was a magistrates court) and say where you are and ask where your nearest county court is...Either way DON'T put down wimbledon tennis court! lol...then just enter the name of your local court into the letter...

  • Having been searching the forums extensively, there are some cases of people claiming from Barclays, but not as many as the other big banks.

I am very close to reclaiming and was wondering if anyone is able to offer some help/advice.

Also since I have a rather large overdraft, I'm more than nervous about the whole process, I'm in the process of building a reserve on a credit card to transfer accross to my overdraft if need be, but this won't cover the whole cost. I've yet to ask Barclays for a summary of fees as I'm just about to head out and set up my parachute account.

Does anyone have info on general trends when dealing with Barclays

    1. Do they tend to take it all the way?
    2. Has anyone had their account closed down?
    3. Has anyone lost against them?
    4. Has anyone ever had the overdraft recalled whilst trying to claim?

    Answers would be greatly appreciated.

    From one scared money saver.
  • hi KIP think if you look at the barclays thread most of your answers will be there, also look at reclaiming bank charges success stories , they dont seem to be closing accounts and I dont think anyone has gone to court yet over barclays. I would ask for your statements as this can take time, by the time you have them you can then decide if you want to go ahead
    best of luck

    1) Do Barclays' ever defend an is it likely I'll have to go there
    2) Can I switch to somewhere nearer to me (Leeds) just incase

    Cheers again

I will post my experience so far for people to compare

Initial letter requestiong £2600 refund on the 20th feb.

Recived a response dated 26th Feb saying that they will investigate and return to me asap , but no later than 19 march.

I thought this was a lot of time to investigate considering after recieving 6 years statments it only took me 1 hour to calculate the sum.

So i have sent by recorded delivery today a letter thanking them for a prompt response and offering them a chance to settle my claim now for £2300 by 9th march. If they fail to meet this timescale and offer i will proceed to court action and recover the full amount.

I have worked in a legal department before, and it is always good to make an early offer of settlement. if it goes to court a judge will not look favourably on the party who refused an early offer of settlement that could have been avoided and saved the courts time.

    see what they say....

I have been corresponding with the Leicester address.

I have tried to resolve the matter on the phone but they dont entertain this at all, not even if you clearly state they could save money by settleing now.

hope this helps anyone with a barclays claim. Please PM if you are in a simular situation so we can compare progress......
  • Just adding my experience with Barclays. Charges came to £90. Followed the forum instructions etc and sent the letter asking for refund plus interest 22nd Feb. Posted it to the Leicester address. Received reply today - very longwinded, reminding me of terms and conditions etc but buried in one of the paragraphs was that £90 would be credited to my account 'as a gesture of goodwill' etc. Refused to give compensation for interest. But 'sorry for the problems' - general tone was very apologetic. So I'm happy with that!

Would never have bothered but for this forum and thread. Good luck to all who have battles for bigger sums on their hands!

A clear pattern is appearing with Barclays. smaller claims appear to be settled quickly with a initial response letter as detailed above. Small claims i would say £500 and under.

Much above this amount it seems they are making offers in the region of 50 - 60% of the claimed amount.

and they seem to be delaying the larging claim 2k + untill court action..

can anyone confirm my observation ?
  • Hi,

I sent my first letter off to barclays reclaiming £930.00 on 20th feb 07.

I recieved a reply from them today thanking me for my letter and advising me that they aim to find a solution within four weeks.
It also states that a full report or an update on progress will be sent to me within eight weeks.

My question is do i stick to the 14 days i outlined in my 1st letter or wait to hear a response from barclays?

    Any help would be apreciated,

    Thanks.
