    Hi everyone,

I’m Barclay Bird, not actually new to the site, but new to posting.

From my name, you might guess where I work ;)

If you think I may be able to give you some “advice”, don’t hesitate to ask :D

I cannot get you copies of statements or charges :o

    Hugs to all.

    BB xx

I would like some advice. I am owed £990 (thats without interest) i didnt claim interest I just claimed the amount i was owed. Barclays have offered me half that which im not happy with. What do you think I should do now? I am not a greedy man I would have been happy with maybe somewhere near what im owed (bearing in mind i didnt even add the interest) but I feel that half is just a bit of a fob off. I'd be happy with maybe £800 or something, what do you think is the best way to get this??

anyone else got any ideas? Its like they just offer half what you claim as a standard reply or something.

Im not great at haggling over money so any help on how I can get a fairer payout would be great.

  • I noticed some people say that barclays dont charge when you ask for your data and others say the info they recieved wastn helpful. I have just adapted the template letter and was going to send it to the data entry department and am not going to send a cheque. Does this seem fine? I dont want them to wait 40 days only to write back and say sorry we need payment.

If payment is required can i instruct them to simply charge my account or do i have to provide a cheque as stated on the guide. As i have no chequebook would it be ok to provide one from my girlfriend?

Or should i just request my statements over the phone with customer services for £5?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    cheers

Finally got the courage to go for it, what have a got to lose??

Got my "statements" today and after putting them into the charges calculator its worked out at £2740.37 (£2390 charges + £350.37 interest)
they owe me and my husband.

Really scared that I will be the only one who ends up in a court case.

  • I recently sent of a list of bank charges To Barclays that added up to ovr £2000 and around £2500 including interest. Barclays have written back to me offering £1000.

I realise there are no set rules in deciding whether to take partial offers or turning down the offer and threatening legal action against the bank. I just wondered what kind of figures have taken on Barclays for full amount owed and been successful.

If anybody has any inside knowledge that will help me please shout! Thanks.
  • Claimed for £495 charges plus £38.51 interest two weeks ago.

Received a letter yesterday offering £240, rang up today saying I didn't think this was acceptable and was offered £300 which again I said was unacceptable. She then immediately said that was all they could offer and that she would make a note against my case saying I has been offered more and turned it down.
See you will in court then Barclays?
  • Hi there,

I have written to Barclays and sent the first letter , asking for my back dated statments (using the template from this site) at the beginning of January. I sent the letter to a branch in Hampshire, where the account was opened 5 years ago. I now live in Lincolnshire and as I have not heard a thing from them, I know it says that they have 40 days, which is any day soon. Should I send another letter, or to somewhere different. Has anyone else experienced a long delay in receiving an inital response from Barclays? Thanks
  • I couldn't say if Barclays will or will not offer more. I am of the opinion following a claim through to the court case is the only way to go.

But ultimately it comes down to your need for the money versus you willingness to take the stress.

When the 40 days are up, let them know they are in breach of their obligation under the Data Protection Act and you will be informing the Data Commissioner, this usually brings around a swift response.
