This new comer wishes to gauge responses from anybody currently engaged with, or having engaged with Barclays Bank Plc, in pursuit of reclaiming unfair bank charges. I have opened a new bank account with a competitor (as advised) and have written and sent letter requesting data relating to two barclays accounts that I currently hold, both of which have been caned with charges over the years.

Welcome to the club my friend. just about everyone on this thread is in the same boat so it is well worth taking the time to scan through the pages and have a look at what other people have had to say.It may be of some interest to you.
If in doubt just post a question and you will get a reply from someone.

  • Looking through HSBC statements, I've noticed times when they've charged interest on the overdraft - anything from £2 to £30 - usually as well as the overdraft charges themselves. Are we allowed to include these interest charges in our list of costs to reclaim or are we limited to the overdraft charges themselves?

    Thanks for far.

Quick update on my Barclays case - got a letter from the court saying Barclays had 14 days to respond to my complaint. Judging from past experiences on this thread I imagine they'll leave it a while then submit a defence. In the meantime, just waiting.

In other news, we've made a start on HSBC with my wife's account. Today she received six years' worth of statements - in individual envelopes! 72 letters! She's fuming! They didn't charge for it though, so that's a result.

Amazing isn't it. They send 72 letters free of charge, yet at times they will send you just one letter charging you £30. Just where do they draw the line?

  • How long does it take Barclays to send the statements through, do they leave it to the last minute? I had a letter off them 5 days ago saying they would send them soon.....
    Thanks

I received my statements after about a week of the letter turning up. so should'nt be long now, just get a high-lighter pen and a bottle of wine and get ready to sit down one night to play 'bank charge bingo' on your statements.

good luck, it wont take too long, honest.

Have finally got all the paperwork together and have reached the point where I'm going to splash some cash on the court fees.... to get approx £1500 of my money back from Barclays & Barclaycard...:j

Ian, the head of public relations for Barclaycard reads these posts regularly apparently.... so, Ian 'Why do Barclays play the silly game of', 'Our offer is X when you know that you will pay the full amount claimed when papers are finally served?'

Is it the rule of percentages? A number of people will accept your initial offer?

Or is it Barclays have become so used to making £££££££ by illegal charges that you treat all customers with contempt?

Not this one........... Its on its way..... ;)
  • Hi everyone,

Can anybody tell me, in their experience, how long it could take for a court date to be set? My AQ had to be back a couple of weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from them since then, so should I expect a letter soon or does it normally take a while?

    Thanks

It depends how busy the court is (they seem blocked up with these bank claims at the moment). If you don't get a letter. Phone the court, quote your case number, and they can tell you how the claim is progressing.

  • Hello there i have a few questions if anyone could help it would be great.

I sent off my claim for £2934 on the 25th of Jan according to the royal mail it was signed for on the 26th. By reading other posts looks likely i will be offered £1000 witch i dont realy want to take but im struggling at the minute money wise.
Anyway just wondering does this offer come with TnC's like saying you will not cliam again in the future?
Also i have an overdraft of £970 is it possible that if i accept the offer barclays will credit me account then take away my overdraft basicaly leaving me with nowt?
Last of all when will this offer come through do they usually leave it till the end of the 14 day point?
Looking through the success storys looks like all banks apart from barclays seem to come up with the goods strait away.
thanks for your time and help paul.
