I got my money back yesterday from Barclays, all off it including the interest and the £120 court fee. It was nerve wracking but it does work - just follow Martin's steps carefully and use these forums when (as I did) you start to lose your nerve.

Bitstreams - did Barclays just pay up after the judgment or did you have to chase them? How long did you wait?
  • I have a disabled daughter who now gets her money into her own bank account over the last year she has constantly gone overdrawn with fees each month.
I want to try claim these fees back for her what I would like is someone who can guide me through the process step by step I have read the threads and just fine this all mind boggling call me thick if you like but I feel very insecure about doing this on my own I need a shoulder to rely on.
If there is anyone that has already done this and wants to do it all over again to help me and would like to take me through doing this in a simple way please pm me and i will send you my email address.
I know there is loads of links on here which mostly I have been to but I still dont feel confident enough to go this alone.
  • ok, next step!

Stuck to my timescale and have just received a letter from barclays offering me less than half of my charges back in settlement. So onto the next step.

Thanks for all the help so far.

is there a page somewhere that shows whos had success with barclays at which stages? Ive just sent off my letter asking for 595 quid back! Just wondered if they'd make an offer or refuse it
I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.
  • I have been reading all the brilliant sucess stories, and the posts from people who are going through it at the moment, one thing I have noticed is that there are not many posts mentioning Barclays, I have looked for old bank statements and have found £1,015 of charges with just the pile I found today! First question: Is there a reason Barclays doesn't get mentioned much? (or have I just not looked properly?) Feeling rather indimated by the thought of doing all this....second question to anyone who is willing... Should I set up a new account before even sending the 1st letter requesting my previous bank charges?

    Thanks in advance
  • All the Barclay's customer experiences in this thread :)

Read Martin's article, then read it again and start the step by step proceedure. Once you have send off for your statements/information I would definately look into getting another account while you wait on this information

  • I have an account with Barclays. I've been charged for going over £250 overdrawn on several occasions so I will try and contest that soon now I know that I can.

When I setup up my account I was 17 and looking for an account which had a debit card so I could order concert tickets and stuff online, so they advised me to get a certain account which cost about £10 per month. Being the lovely naive chap that I was I presumed this was normal and that all other accounts had these sort of charges. Of course I now realise this isn't the case. I was just wondering if it's possible to contest these monthly charges as well? The only reason I haven't cancelled the account is because I started using the overdraft and until now haven't been in a position to pay it off.
  • You can't claim the monthly charges for having a particular account. If you are going to reclaim you might be best to wait to downgrade the account or you will be hit for more charges while your claim is ongoing.
  • Hi, i'm new to this site and this reclaiming bank charge process.
    Need some advice...please.

Have approached Barclays bank for our charges back, totalling £2945.78(including the interest) and they have sent a letter today offering us £1000-Not admitting liability but as a gesture of goodwill! Should i stand my ground for the full whack or go back to them with a more realistic offer total?

    Aagh!
