Hi all been lurking again and shamefully not contributing.
I start reclaiming my bank charges in December and got a reply to the first letter asking for repayment 2 days ago, it was what appears to be the std timescales letter, anyway didnt do anything with it till last night when I typed the second letter and dropped it off in the local branch this morning. I got home from work this evening and a "goodwill gesture" was waiting, £165... just send the signed form back to get yer money. I laughed when I read it and will now phone them tomorrow to say no thanks, I think Ill wait for the full £445 and if they insist on taking it to court the £496+court fees it would be with the interest added.
    I owe, I owe,
its off to work I go,
I work all day for f***all pay,
I owe, I owe, I owe :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • Hello all,

Firstly thanks for a great site, it has taught me a lot and prompted to something about my situation. I wont go into too much detail, (im sure you will all get bored!!!!) but basically Barclays have had 2366 pounds in charges from me over a six year period, the majority of this amount was last year. I requested my bank statements going back the last 6 years and recieved them after about a week with an uncashed cheque for 10 pounds (thanks barclays)!!!! Cant believe i said that!!! I added all charges up plus 8% interest and sent of the letter asking for these charges refunded. Within 14 days ive recieved a letter back saying that they are prepared to offer me 1000 towards the total amount i am seeking. Barclays have not been helpful to me in the past and because of this i lost my flat i had with my fiance so im pretty peeved with them. My question is, should i accept this offer or go a stage further and ask for more.? also, if i was to proceed to the next stage, could barclays turn round and say i will get nothing and take back the offer i have in writing here with me now? Advice please!!!?

    Many thanks:confused:
  • Only you can decide if you want to accept the offer or not. Have a read back over previous posts to see how other people's claims with Barclays have gone.
  • Hi,

I wondered if anyone was able to help me.

I have spent the last couple of months going through the process of making a claim through the small claims court for money owed to me by Barclays for unfair bank charges.

I have had to provide various documents to the court and I have now been given Notice of Allocation to the Small Claims Track (Hearing) in February.

I'm absolutely freaking at the idea of having to attend court and give a statement in person with Barclays attending, and wondered if anyone else had been through the same. My claim was only for £340 including charges and interest owed but Barclays have not been willing to pay up so i'll have to go to court.

Has anyone else taken Barclays to court? Did Barclays attend? If yes, did you win your claim.

I'd really appreciate some advice as its all a little daunting for me.

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice.

  • Hey guys, just thought I would update on my progress. I wrote my first letter to Barclays in December and they send all my statements a week later. I then sent the second letter reclaiming £2800 without interest on December 28 2006. Recieved a letter from Barclays yesterday offering £1000. So obviously I can't accept that so now onto the final letter informing them that I will be filing court action if the amount requested is not paid within 14 days... SCARY!!!
  • Hi All,

I need a bit of advice.

I am claiming back £1620 from Barclays, they initially offered me £830 as a 'goodwill gesture'. "NO DEAL"

I am now at the stage of going through the small claims court online but cant afford to pay the £120 costs until the end of the month. Will it be a problem for another 3 weeks or so to elapse before i submit my claim ? Also, i have had a number of other charges on my account since i sent my original letter, can i add these on to my claim and if so how do it do that ? Is it just a case of sending another letter to them stating i am adding these on and do i have to give them time to turn the new charges down as well. ?

    Thanks
  • My charges over last 6 years totalled £1980! I sent the letter based on the template on the BBC website with all statements and have today received a letter offering me £980 as a gesture of good will whilst refusing to accept that charges were illeagal. I couldnt really give a monkeys about that, but im worried if I dont accept this 'good will offer' I'll end up getting nothing. perhaps Ive been watching too much deal or no deal, but does anyone else have experience of getting a good will offer from Barclays and rejecting it?

    cheers
    Stu
  • Yeah i got the same sort of offer, see my post above.

  • You can add in the new charges when you fill in the final claim on MoneyClaim.

As regards any delay in your online claim it could be that the offer from Barclays has a time limit for you to accept.
